Found more Jugemu stuff, from May and June 1995 issues, on this Japanese blog: http://astralunit.blog.fc2.com/

Put the site through Google translator and it reads as if May 1995 was the first issue of the magazine?

Yeah, I’ve performed a lot of internet searches on Jugemu in the past, and I cannot find any earlier issue of the Magazine than May of 1995. It also seems that the magazine only lasted for about a year or so.

Finding any of the issues for sale on Yahoo Auctions Japan has been virtually fruitless for me, in the more than a year that I’ve been trying. I did, however, find the May issue, scans of which I might be able to make and add to the site soon, but as for the Virtual Boy, it only has the articles that you just posted and some other not-too-exciting stuff about it, as far as I can tell.

Very nice find! It’s amazing how scarce the Virtual Boy VidPro cards are. Practically impossible to find any of them these days. Probably because all of them were thrown away and/or burned, unfortunately.

Yeah, VidPro cards were definitely made a good while before the release of the games they show, especially since the legendary Dragon Hopper VidPro card is known to exist. Thus, one might expect more VidPro cards to show screenshots of games, which later got changed for their final versions.

Huh, good question.. Being without the label and all that is it possible he made reproductions of the reproductions? I find the no label part of it a little strange..

He does say 5 units available “for now,” so perhaps he does indeed plan to get more or even make more himself.

Well, $80 is cheaper than trying to convert a FlashBoy Plus into a Bound High exclusive cart on one’s own, so there might be a buyer for it.

Hi Bigmak,Speedyink,
What do you think, how much I have to pay for a loose used stand or new one?

I’m looking for a japan stand since my first Virtualboy.
The stand looks fantastic and fits perfectly to the VB.
But the price for this is much to high…

Thanks,

Cosmo

As Roli said, it’s hard to put a value on these things. I’ve seen them at a huge variety of prices, and they’re usually different amounts of “Complete” too. I think I saw one for around $500 online once, with a VB, but was missing some pieces I seem to remember.

A couple of years ago, I remember a couple of these stands appearing on eBay with low starting bids, so the bidders were allowed to determine the prices instead of the sellers. Each one was just a loose black stand, so no original packaging to go with them, and one or both of them might have even been missing a clamp or two. They each sold for about $200.00 to $250.00, not including shipping.

But man, how cool is it that 20 years later we’re still finding new things from the systems past?

Very cool, and I expect that new Virtual Boy stuff will continue to be found in years to come!

vuefinder83 wrote:

… maybe some day another one of these will show up, one that is still fully functional with no battery corrosion and we will then know the true actions of this items original light.

Well, it is very unfortunate, indeed, that we don’t know now what the original light did, but I very much like your reasoning for installing the flashing red LED. Nice work with getting this rare piece of Virtual Boy history restored as best as possible.

Nintendo does seem to have a history of not trying to conform to what everybody else is doing until they see the financial success of what everybody else is doing. Thus, I do think that there would first have to be a VR unit made by somebody else that proves to be successful, before Nintendo would then do it more awesomely.

I think that the tiny light had better do something incredibly amazing, so as to require 8 button cell batteries to operate it. I just can’t imagine why it would need so many.

I dont think this was made to be worn like a button at all, unless you wanna walk around blinding people all day with the laser beams that shoot out of this thing ( thanks to the 8 batteries ). =P

Well, blinding laser beams are pretty amazing, so I guess they’re justified.

… I can’t quite get the four boxes to be totally clear with the focus slider/ipd slider, though, but I think that’s normal?…

Right. Getting all 4 boxes to be crystal clear from one viewpoint is not feasible. You will usually have to move your head a little when looking at something in a corner in order for it to be very clear, if it is not clear already.

What’s the best way to play the Virtual Boy, though?…

I also find the use of a reclining chair to be the best. Put something sturdy on your lap to prop up the system with its stand, until the system rests comfortably on your face that is leaning against the back of the reclining chair. When I’ve done this in the past, I’ve been able to play for 7 or 8 hours straight with no neck strain whatsoever.

Another hyper fighting on the bay…

http://m.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-Hyper-Fighting-Street-Fighter-II-SF2-3D-New-1-DAY-/391307970107?nav=SEARCH

The one-day listing closed and sold at $499. Looks like the seller is another forum member here cause415.

Does anyone know if this is the very first time Hyper Fighting has sold on eBay?

Assuming it was a legit auction, yep, that would have been the first one to sell on eBay, and it will soon be followed by the second one ending in a few days.

I wonder how much hyper fighting would go for in the end. Its allready at 410 USD with 9 days to go 😐

How does the forum feel about this? I am surprised to see them being sold.

I think it’s pretty much the only fair way to let others who missed out have a chance to own the game, since there doesn’t seem to be any indication that the game will be made available in any form, apart from the already made copies of it.

I like that the seller started the auction at a penny, so it’s the buyers determining the price and not the seller.

Also, Benjamin Stevens should be releasing a new set of levels in 2 weeks…

Unfortunately, I have to put that project on hold, since I have very little free time for side-projects these days. I do still hope to make it eventually, but I have no idea when.

Thanks Ben, is there any more detailed information about those magazines available? All I know is that it is a “fanzine”, but is it known who produced that, how could you buy that back then and how did the target group look like? So obviously there were also others types of those fanzines available that were not Virtual Boy related?

Sorry, but I am not aware of any detailed information in the English language about what you are looking for. The most pertinent information about these magazines is probably that which is contained in these magazines themselves in the Japanese language, but I myself have no plans to translate this material at this time, as such is very time-consuming for me.

Benjamin Stevens – Your dedication to this console is astounding. The sheer amount of research you’ve done blows me away. Thanks to you there’s so much more information available for everyone to see.

Thanks for the kind words. I am actually still in search of precious, original Virtual Boy information, primarily that which is contained in the Japanese language, and I’ve actually found some interesting things recently, which I hope to share and later translate. Nevertheless, I’ve been rather stressed and busy lately, so I don’t know when I’ll get to it, but I keep on trucking.

north or whomever, I may expose my ignorance here, but what do you mean by “crystal screens?” Is that something special? I haven’t heard that term in the context of the VB yet.

He very likely meant “crystal-clear” screens, since his screens no longer have the glitchy display problem.
