Every time I think about this, my favorites have changed. Here are my picks:

1. Bound High
2. Space Squash
3. Jack Bros.
4. Galactic Pinball
5. Virtual Bowling
6. Vertical Force
7. Insmouse No Yakata (more for having great artwork and being a Lovecraft-inspired game)
8. Wario Land
9. Hyper Fighting (working on a homemade link cable to really start enjoying it!)
10. The GameBoy emulator program from the Virtual Fall competition…I hope that receives further updates for our enjoyment!

Whoever was in charge of putting the VB into the Frasier episode must have been a Sega fan, since the box is suspiciously facing the wrong way…

Since I just happened to grab a shot the last time I went through Frasier…I think I was telling my friend about this, who didn’t believe me until I sent proof.

I feel like I’ve seen this happen before, where a seemingly new in box system has an unmatched serial #. Maybe somebody bought two systems and returned one, but happened to get things switched. One time I got a complete in box VB on ebay, which came with two controllers- but the serial #s were off by about 25 units. So, I’m guessing the original owner bought two from the same shipment and eventually got rid of one with the wrong box.

The others are right- a higher price will probably sell eventually but it could take a while. I’ve had admittedly overpriced stuff sell within minutes of listing, other reasonably-priced things keep renewing automatically for years without selling :-p. I’d recommend a Buy-It-Now price near the high average, with Best Offers enabled.

Seriously, I can’t wait for something like that. It would be fun to bring my VB and laptop to a Starbucks to do online play from there. Maybe I’m just desperate for attention 🙂

I guess I pictured it more as some players being the Smokers and others being the normal players- this would probably be a different game mode like 4 on 4.

wow, I had never heard of the Pico. I looked it up, it seems like a fairly advanced idea for the time. When coming to this post, I assumed it was going to be about a failure like the Saturn, which I suppose it was commercially anyway. Funny how the VB and Saturn were both slammed for not having a truly iconic game with their mascots, since Sonic Xtreme and VB Mario Land never materialized.

Anyway, more on-topic…it seems like one form of the Pico was being supported through 2005 in Japan, that’s impressive. How many programs came out in that exclusive time?

Didn’t they plan to release Waterworld with multiplayer support but dropped it? It has that 9-person pseudo multiplayer option but I thought I read there was originally a planned link option….or I’m totally wrong :-p

My very last was Red Alarm when I solder-fixed a display for a local game store that had given up hope on selling it. It had the game inside, so I tested that at the store to show it off.

Before that, Wario Land was the last one I really played. I have an emergency VB with Wario at my band practice space, and it came in handy when I needed a break. I ran an audio patch cable from the headphone port to our mixer, and got a nice 1000 watt bass-heavy stereo sound going.

I’m not sure if the seller actually makes these games or he just sells for whoever does make them. If you search Google for “100RetroShock facebook” (no spaces in 100RetroShock), that should help you find their page. They seem to do other translations as well.

I will definitely post pics when I open mine finally…the manual appears to be an actual booklet as far as I can see. The back of the box has the Nintendo seal, pictures, description, etc. that you would expect. Overall the box’s print quality isn’t as high as an original would be, but it’s still pretty convincing.

The game probably is mostly in English anyway, I just thought it was a fun thing to add to my collection 🙂

Here’s a picture from the listing…

I voted N64…I rarely play it right now, but it was the first system I bought near launch and played a lot of games to death during its lifespan. The look of the console still appeals to me as well, whereas the SNES just seems like an eyesore sometimes heh…plus I loved having the gold Nintendo Power controller which also was played to death and needs a new joystick badly.

I am expecting to get some gaming goodness this year…probably a few today and more when I get home to see family in a week or two. Pictures will follow! This is my first Christmas since really being back into retro gaming, so even Johnny-come-lately systems in my collection like 3DO, Neo Geo CD and 32x will be involved. Except for Dreamcast and NES, I have at least S-video cables for everything now too. The component cable for my PS2 makes such a huge difference, I’m hoping to get a few of those games to really test it out!

I’m getting on this a bit late, but I just picked up a semi off-brand SCART to component converter box. I’ve been too busy to test it because of holiday stuff and other modding projects…but I’m hoping to get on it this week because reviews all seemed to rave about the output quality. If it works, I plan on making special cables for each system that will plug into a custom jack that feeds into the SCART input. That would probably be cheaper and more organized than buying SCART cables for each system 0:)

I think it’s only fitting to use a retro OS on a retro gaming site like this, meaning I have Android 2.3.4 :). And the LG Optimus Slider phone. Runnerpack, I just fixed up a new MyTouch 4G and am hoping to use it with Virgin Mobile but think that’s going to be tricky…

Android 4.1.2 Samsung Galaxy S2. I like to ride that line between practical and cheapskate 🙂

I’m so far on the “cheapskate” side, I can’t even see the line 😀

If you can believe it, I’m still rockin’ Gingerbread (2.3.6) on an HTC MyTouch 4G. Yeah, I know…

So, if anyone has a semi-recent, T-Mobile/unlocked, Android phone kicking around a drawer or closet they’d be willing to let go for, say, $25-50, I’m just a PM away! 😉

that’s pretty cool! Time well spent on each pixel :).

Can we look forward to some PVB original screen renderings of Goldeneye, VB Mario Land, etc.?

Also, this is kind of different but didn’t the VB show up on Pawn Stars too? I can see it now, some brief intro to the system for the show’s viewers explaining that it failed for the seizure outbreaks it caused. There were some units popping up on ebay with ‘Pawn Stars’ in the title, so I assumed that was the reason…never saw it myself though.

I don’t really watch The Big Bang Theory, but for some reason I could picture someone on that show having one as part of a retro fad.

I feel like I’ve seen the VB elsewhere on TV but can’t remember where now. It may have been repurposed as a cheap movie prop, I’ve seen various Nintendo items spraypainted and used as scenery in high-tech space ships or whatever 🙂

I felt bad for my Saturn just sitting there, unplayed, so I splurged on a copy of Norse By Norsewest (the Lost Vikings sequel). It’s really good so far, definitely has some challenging levels and interesting graphics. I mentioned the game to my friends and we all thought the same thing, we remembered ads in GamePro or other magazines but none of us had ever played it before :). I’ll track down the first one soon…

I’ve seen them go for less than $80 before…mostly a patience thing if you can wait until a reasonable BIN shows up. I lucked out and got mine in a big box lot. Luckily the JP Mario’s Tennis has a pretty nice box, so I just bought that until the US one came within reach.
