it’s funny to me that he calls the VB “cumbersome”. like the PS3/PS4, Wii/Wii U, Xbox360/XBone aren’t? the only console i currently own that i would say isn’t cumbersome would be the OUYA. it is literally a tiny little box that fits in the palm of my hand.
biased writers will do whatever they can to insert their negative opinions, even it is 1 word at a time.
based on his comments about watery eyes and headaches, it is clear to me he has never used a VB.
i also have to respectfully disagree with thunderstruck’s comments. my VB is 100% comfortable to play. i keep it leaned towards the table, slightly, and can sit at my most comfortable posture for hours while playing it. I’ve not had an issue on any standard table and chair set. at my desk it is much easier because my chair adjusts, i can raise it higher to make it 101% comfortable.
is this line even true? it reads like such an assumption: “His reasons are his own, but he certainly doesn’t seem embarrassed to be so enamored with such a universally disliked product.”

all other times no matter what roms of what size, the file always became 4 MB
it sounds like you were adding roms to a previous compilation. you should always double check that you are injecting roms to a clean copy of the emulator.
make sure you are flashing 2mb files.
run the following:
cw_pad.vb
dc_pad.vb
MarioCombat.vb
pad the following on your own:
flappy_cheep_cheep.vb is only 1mb
StarFox.vb is 128kb
zpace_racers.vb is 512kb
the padded files should run without issue. are you getting any error when you flash them? does the software say 100%? after flashing the working gbemu, did you try a vb rom to make sure the issue isn’t with your FB?
i like almost everything about it, including the red/black graphics you both were quick to point out. i find the red very soothing and enjoyable when playing in the dark.
i dislike the red plastic lenses. their shape causes the edges of the screen to blur, forcing me to physically move my head. you can really notice this when playing the homebrew “3D Crosswords” by VirtualChris.
i get upset when i read about the things nintendo supposedly did to gunpei yokoi. like how they would shame him into demonstrating the VB and then laugh about its failure. if they had not rushed it to market, promoted it correctly, and went through with the relaunch, it may have been received better.
i wish (although this is not a complaint geared towards the talents of this board) that the VB had a larger developer following. this system has untapped potential. the vectrex has more completed homebrew games than commercial releases, there is no reason the VB can’t be the same way.

or some reason I cannot edit the original post
i do believe chris coded in a 30 min edit window for each of your posts. just enough time to get something right, but not ideal for keeping trading forum posts up-to-date.
kotaku posted that. i wrote back a comment. i still find the “eye strain” comments unfounded. as we have discussed here, those issues (and headaches) were probably attributed to misaligned mirrors or improperly tuned settings.
my only suggestion would be that holding B/A would go quickly through the alphabet.
dogp: your physics are great. the game is easier than the original and feels much more natural. i’m rather enjoying this one. do you have any plans to add any background music?
to make sure you didn’t mistype anything, let the DOS shell do the typing for you. just type the 1st letter and then press TAB to complete.
my lenses are pretty scratched up, especially in the center. i would wager a bet that the person who owned the vb before me always dusted them from the center outward, and used something like a paper towel (with wood fiber).
i’ve had the idea to replace my lenses with glass or red plastic at some point. i still need to open my vb to clean the LED arrays. when i do this, i’ll play a few games without the lenses in to see how the red lenses affect the games. if games still look the same, but perhaps not as dark, i may just replace them with some glass. i always wanted to put something flat in there instead of the current lenses that “pop out”. i experience blurriness towards the edges of games due to the part of the lens that pops-out.
has anyone played a game without the lenses? what was it like? do the lenses help the gaming experience?
please replace your assumptive attitude and instead request the meaning of what i wrote if you can not grasp its context.
the fact that you feel you are the hero for not providing additional information does not excuse you for inconsiderately leaking private information in the first place.
the point of the matter is that you divulged private conversations into the public forum. you feeling “attacked” is because you are the only one who did this, so naturally, you can be the only focus in this conversation. “bossing” you around would have involved remarks which forced you into an outcome. something i did not do.
i simply stated, across 3 replies already, that you should not have released private information into the public forum. when you PM or chat privately with someone, that is information generated for your eyes only. is it not? perhaps you were not told to release that information? i do not know because as i already said, those conversations were private, yet you should have exercised a moment of commonsense and considered the potential harm of your statement.
i have seen smaller projects than this meet their demise due to the press running wild with public forum comments. as i am sure you are aware, this project has already generated a great deal of internet press. unofficially adding anything to the mix can not be beneficial to the project.
i do believe i made my point, several times. you made it clear that you find my comments personally upsetting, several times. perhaps it is time to acknowledge these points and let this personal debate subside. i do not see what good can come of a public debate about the same core issue that fails to build in any positive direction.

Excuse me for trying to be nice and point someone in the direction of a person that knows first hand on what’s going on.
there should be no mention of this project’s potential or who might be involved by you or anyone. it isn’t your place to say.
I could have given a lot of info on the projects status
so now you are threatening the plans of all unreleased and potential projects by admitting you considered releasing private information to the public forum?
were you under the impression you are the only one who discusses things behind the scenes? why would you want to generate hype or put someone in the spot light before they were ready? did you simply want that virtual *pat* on the back? when using public forums, sometimes saying nothing at all is the best approach. luckily for you those involved are super nice and i’m sure will answer your questions in the future.
nothing official has been announced. no news has been released. regardless of what you may have heard, it wasn’t very nice to point people to bigmak. why should he have to now get flooded by PMs and chats? if the game is going to be finished/released then let that information come in time.
this is rather interesting and unexpected. MK, how far do you plan to take this? is this a 1-off release for the compo, and an experiment in having fun with coding?
i’ve played a few good flappy bird clones over the past week. i just saw an “another world” themed version was just released, and was playing that tonight. it made me think about what the game might be like on the vb, and then i saw your entry.
cheers!
don’t quote me on this because i haven’t researched this fully, but according to this site you can use the following…
US tap – 9V adapter (identical to the NES and SNES)
JP tap – NES/FC or SNES/SFC AC Adapter
i know my snes adapter does not fit in my JP tap, so i’m not sure why the site has that information. like i said, don’t quote me on it, do your own research.
i also recall reading something about using a sega master system adapter on the JP tap.

Stumbled across this site while googling,
Great stumble. There is no better place for the Virtual Boy. Everything you could ever want to know about it has been collected here. Homebrew releases are announced here. The community is diversified, everything from collector perspectives to vb-related electronics discussions go on here.
A FlashBoy+ is a must own. Playing translations, hacks, and homebrew on actual hardware is the way to go.
What have you picked up so far? Just a VB and Wario? Did you get the AC Adapter, a US VB, any cool collectibles?
Enjoy your stay.

3ds piracy is rampant, but requires a firmware v4.1-4.5. 3ds homebrew is pretty new and only a handful of very simple projects have been released. homebrew also requires the same firmware, as its using the same exploit.
i wouldn’t expect anything as complex as emulation for at least a year (probably a few more).

these are just examples of what has been released.
I got the white limited OUYA for xmas. I read a lot of bad things about the controller, and I can honestly say that I am not experiencing them on the updated model. I do find the analog stick a bit over sensitive a times, it makes some space shooters really sloppy to play. I also find the D-Pad to be under sensitive, at times it won’t respond and I have to press it harder than I am accustomed too.
The Discover store is difficult to browse. I find the best method is to find an offline list, do some research, and then just use the store to grab a DL.
The Android kernel is fine but the user interface needs a lot of work. There are many things I can complain about. Simple things like being unable to shut off the console from the software, you can only put it into sleep mode. How after exiting a game it returns you to the start of the list, not where you left off. How the list is so bulky, I would prefer smaller icons and an actual list that displayed more than 8 things at a time, etc.
As far as games, I’ve found some of the current OUYA games to be mobile ports not worth my time. There are real gems but you need to dig a bit to find them. Emulation is great, that is was the key selling point for me. There are a lot of things on kickstarter offering OUYA support. 2014 should be a good year for the console.
I’m slowly playing my way through the OUYA library. Researching as I go, and trying to find things worth my money. I have a great collection so far of things I am enjoying daily. I have always been a huge fan of homebrew and Indy gaming. The OUYA supports both so well. It has been a real treat to explore.
