i would have been a volunteer for their floor staff, and then taken a cart at the end of the 1st night and mailed it to a PO box. “where is it” — “hell if i know” — “you are dismissed” — “ok” — then run home to the PO box.
anything that makes the site better is better for the site. it becomes better for its members and guests. if you have the means and time to remake all of the music collections, then you should do so. i same could be said for screen shots, information, multimedia, etc.
i’m curious about the part where you clean the contacts. you mentioned that you still had some lines and so you cleaned the contacts. we already had reports that the lines are being caused by dust on the plastic lens over the LEDs, and that wiping that area will get rid of those black lines. this makes me curious, could the lines be caused by both dust on the contacts and dust on the LEDs?

Once again, another description compiled after 2 minutes of Internet “research”.
I would have camped out by the VB and told the real history of its development, ad campaign, release, and eventual discontinuation. It upsets me how it has gone down in history with blurbs made up of incorrect and misleading information.

it is funny that other people experience the same phenomenon. my vb just sort of magically clips in place. even when its open more than far enough to accept the vb, it doesn’t always seem to go into the clip. it is so odd. lol
you can probably grab a stand for around $30. just make sure to ask the seller if the center medallion is free of cracks. it is the weak point of the design. once you find one, you can still turn a profit.
i hope you get a chance to test it out. it was a very unique system that never seems to get the credit it deserved. back then if you didn’t turn a profit you were a failure. based on what the VB set out to accomplish, it was a success. somewhat limited by its monochromatic display, but a success non-the-less.
my box had the warranty card and the mail-away card for a free set of batteries (from what i recall, its in storage now). from a collector’s point of view, yea they may be nice to have. adding value? there were an estimated 770,000 units sold and the vb was on the market for less than a year. i would bet that a lot of those warranty cards weren’t sent in. i have seen them often. however, most vb’s i see for sale are without a box. so perhaps the card would be considered rare. although, i don’t see how it would increase the value much. its a nice thing to have, for a completest, but adds nothing to the experience of playing vb games.
$5 for a vb is incredibly cheap. is it complete (vb, eye shade (without tares), stand (without cracks to the medallion), controller, battery pack, and mario tennis)? by comparison, i spent $145 on my boxed unit and it came with 3 games and the AC adapter.
have you tried it yet, is it working? a common issue with the vb is the displays will glitch up. this is due to the fact that nintendo used glue to secure them, and that glue just doesn’t last the test of time. it is possible to fix this issue, so if you do indeed have it, don’t get upset. =)
if you are asking about the rarity of the card because you are wanting to sell the vb to your co-worker, i would say that a fully working vb without the major issues (cracked stand, torn eye shade, etc) would be worth around $75. they close for less on eBay and often more, but right around that price would be a good starting point. if you have some games and the AC adapter, then the price should go up.
i’ve never understood the fascination with pokemon or why everyone of that generation wants a pokemon homebrew. i’ve tried a variety of the games and found them repetitive and exhaustive.
that is a project better suited for a WIKi article. on this forum we can’t even edit our posts after 30 minutes. a thread discussing working games is going to grow out of proportion quickly.
here is an established video game community with a working wiki install. as long as no roms are linked/hosted to/from the page, there will not be a problem.
since there are already projects which archive all gb/gbc dumps, it would be trivial to populate such an article with a full list of available roms. then it is just a matter of the community making edits to help establish what is working and what is not.
as far as the 2MB compilation problem, perhaps someone should instead look into the existing padding application or the app that makes the compilation should be updated to pad out to 2MB.
i went the gamebit route as i had access to a grinder at the time. i made it thinner until it fit and then used a dremel to notch a slot for a screwdriver in the top.
