I think the pro’s and con’s have been demonstrated in earlier posts. But what I don’t get is the negative comments about the red and black. I come from the age of laser shows that were 3d and people paid to see them, they were also monochrome. To me the VB is like an interactive laser show and as far as the 3d effect goes it in my mind is right up there w/ universal studios. Most things that I have you kinda have to wonder is it 3d or isn’t it? It’s kinda like a shadow of 3d. But not the case for the virtual boy it is very 3d almost like looking at cardboard cutouts arranged in space. I don’t know why this is the only thing that I can think of is maybe it’s because you adjust it to your own eyes it’s a personal thing and it works according to you.:vb:

has anyone played a game without the lenses? what was it like? do the lenses help the gaming experience?

Your eyes dry out pretty quickly without the lenses, since the mirrors act as fans. 😉 As expected, it’s not much different looking… except you notice more ambient reflections, since stuff that’s not red becomes much more noticeable. But with the eyeshade on and your face properly looking into the system, it’s not a big deal.

Yeah also don’t have too long of lashes (trimmin time)None of those cover girl extensions LOL just joking.XD and no I don’t know from experience. Just some VB humor thats all.

This is actually quite fun. Ive played it much longer than the other entries that doesn’t mean that it gets my vote. Just that it is a good game in it’s own right.

I tried the toothpaste trick w “Colgate cavity protection” (white paste) in the states. It certainly didn’t hurt.:-) It made the windows as clear as I’ve ever seen them and got rid of all of the pesky smudges as well. I still have a black line through the right eye. But I think it’s because I have a speck of dust on the mirror I don’t think it’s because of a scratch. I recommend a soft cloth like an old t-shirt or microfiber using just a smudge and rubbing in circles. Next rub in circles w/ a damp cloth. lastly dry off w a dry cloth. Kudos Thunder You’ve saved us a bundle on not having to replace the windows.
=D!:vb:

Very impressive Demo, I think we’re all waiting for the final on this one DanB. Its amazing how far home brew has come w/ great programmers such as yourself.:vb:

No matter, I’ve already received an offer that panned out. This thread can be closed now.

You may think so but I’m sure in the future someone else may want a fixed VB. >B

Greg this isn’t a good effort….THIS IS NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME =D!!!Remember I am not a programmer I’m only an Artist w/ that being said if you are taking criticisim, my only only thing is I would like to see the animation on the craft more smooth less like 2 frames flip and more like smoothly banking. That is my only criticisim in this AWESOME PROJECT….STARFOX IS ON THE HORIZON!:thumbup

So they are intended to hold the dustcover? That’s brilliant.

Yeah, just another way that the VB was waaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of it’s time. And yet sadly unnoticed.

PM’ed;-)

To me the only redeeming factor of 3d Tetris is that it shows that true polygons are possible on the VB. But Hey Danb blew us all away w that using the Yeti engine and His Hunter port. Kudos Danb=D! >B

Man if only Panic Bomber were a choice! It blows away 3d Tetris!

i always test the depth and 3d effect by closing one eye to see what it looks like when flat. then i open both and get a greater sense of what the game was trying to accomplish.

Yeah that’s a great practice and I’ve found that you can really study how the earlier games made their depth effects by taking a side by side image in Mednafen and study the differences.;-)

V.C. One tip for Ya. Try to draw a black outline over your sprites so they will not blend into the background so much.
I think you’ll like the results a lot better.

Hey VC it looks as though your own hand drawn graphics are getting better. Keep up the good work

I think I’m going to get rid of Slaying Mantis and replace him with a Ter-Might.

If I were you I wouldn’t get rid of slaying mantis. Preying mantis’s are notorious for being great fighters. I would just find another way to fix your problem.

If you love the VB this is the place where it’s Happenen!;)
Welcome aboard!

My personal favorite is Overclocked Remix http://ocremix.org/
it’s video game music done right and best of all it’s free!:-) When I’m not listening to that, I like to listen to 80 tunes. I’m a little old fashioned I admit but once and a while I do enjoy One Republic.

does anyone listen to “real” music while playing video games? Listening to something fast and heavy during racing games has always been one of my favorite pastimes. VB-wise, I’ve had some epic sessions of completely zoning out for hours while combining Galactic Pinball with some more complex music in the background.

I was famous for this when in the Era of the N64 (shoulda bought more VB stuff…. darnit):-(. I would often set the music to mute while having the sfx blasting while Playing Star Fox 64 and Wave Race. My personal fav was playing Star Fox 64 to Star Wars themes… Radical!:-)

Really, they Paint’d all of that?? Why do it that way, just a lack of high-powered software back then?

Yeah they either drew it or they had really powerful software that could render w/o a lot of weird dither patterns, most likely they drew it.:-)
