Sonic games; Remember that guy who shoots down Marty McFly’s band in Back to the Future? “I’m afraid you fellas are just too darn loud”…I feel that way about Sonic, only that he’s too darn fast.

That guy was none other than Huey lewis… as in Huey lewis and the news. Not just a guy someone very famous.

Hi Gang,
the Wii U makes great use of the select button in Super Mario Maker. You can use the select button to toggle between edit and play modes in stead of having to drag out the stylus each time!:)

What on earth do you do inside the castle to get past the lava? Once you get so far you can’t go any futher!
Also How da heck do you get to the key? Tried it all and can’t get to the key!

My son and I loved this little game. It’s about as good as any VB homebrew sans HF it’s a nice little game. 🙂

This reads like a big deal with lots of enthusiasm behind it, but then I visit the homepage and see one line in a change log that lists stereoscopic images as an experimental feature.

I get what your saying about the labeling Lester, However if you are a VB game developer and are sick of cardboard cutouts and want real 3d sprites than this is YOUR TICKET!

I agree with the whole publicity issue, here could someone go on Nintendo age and advertise it. I would do It myself but I’m not even a member there. Having 1 post I would look like a Uber Noob.

That sounds really cool… just curious about a couple things. Is this something for a casual user, or is it really aimed at the “professional

If it helps Pro Motion will remind you of Deluxe Paint on the Amiga. If you’ve used the Amiga and that wasn’t difficult for you then you will find Pro Motion easy.

“What is the “process” to go from drawing to displaying on the VB?

Pro Motion NG has a great tool called cloning. most cloners clone in exactly the same place in a different document. Pro Motion NG lets you clone from your source and displace your graphic into 3d, creating a parallax. Or if you decide to freehand draw your graphics you can displace as you draw creating Parallax on the fly. As far as the rest of the process goes I’m sorry I can’t answer the rest.I’m a artist not a programmer.

Is this something for a casual user, or is it really aimed at the “professional” (i.e. is it quick and easy to learn, will it help the average VB homebrew programmer, etc)? In the free version, is there anything critical missing for us VB’ers?[\quote]

This tool can accomodate both the professional user and the hobbiest and every one in between it’s as easy as displace and draw.
Unfortuanately I can not answer what is avalable in the free version I know when I went to purchase it the only differance was it would’nt save it would even save in Pro Motion format but would’nt save in PNG’s BMP’s ect. Jan may of changed it from there.

What is the “process” to go from drawing to displaying on the VB? Currently, my process is draw (or steal) bmps, convert to 4 colors, then convert to chars and BG maps. Does this program really just accelerate the drawing of animation frames, or are there other optimizations like reducing the number of unique chars, dithering, etc?
Is this program widely used for actual retro game programming (homebrew communities like us), or just “retro” style flash games and stuff. Obviously there are a lot of differences between making something look retro on brand new hardware with practically no limitations, rather than on the old hardware which actually has limitations which forced it to look like that.[\quote]

I really can’t answer theese questions I’m not qualified to so I asked RunnerPack if he would.

Sorry to bump my own thread but let’s give credit where credit is due. The creator of Pro Motion Next Generation is Jan Zimmerman. He has helped us like Richard Hutchinson. Not quite as much as Richard but well on his way to contributing a bunch.

Not to bump this thread too much but check out this soul sister.

It seems that the fax view and the VB wasn’t the only thing that had this concept.

That is one of my favorite shows, though at one moment it pretty much got trashed by the writers…. But I love the story you just wrote and have thought about such a thing once or twice myself 😉

Who said anything about a story? It sounded like a real account to me.

Thank you for sharing your sliding experience vb-fan. However most people keep that to them selves because no one believes them. We Here at Planet Virtual Boy do believe your account. it’s always good to have friends. Your in very good company;)

The alternate scenario

The time is set in the early 90’s and there is a partnership between Nintendo and Sony. Plans are made for the Nintendo Snes CD. Suddenly Sony hears about plans for a 3d immersive headset known as the VR32. Sony Jumps at the chance to back this awesome system. Plans for the cartridge port are scrapped for the more “trendy” CD drive. A big advantage to this is the new “Lightshow N” That takes any music cd and makes a 3d lasershow to the music. Nintendo and Sony both back the new product and in this universe there is no Sony Playstation. Nintendo and Sony are friends. Not to mention that Square soft and Enix only work on Nintendo platforms.

Oh what if…..Oh we can dream can’t we.

Ok ok, I’ll take a shot, but it won’t be as good as yours.

Well that’s debatable at any rate thank you for your compliments. And hey I enjoyed your tale as well, anybody else? Lester Knight? your always saying how you love to write. Care to share?

Dammit, that alternate reality sounds beautiful, Morintori. If only!!

Thanks Speedy, Hey am I the only Yutz that has a story. Any body else wanna take a shot?

The second launch.

The year was 1997 the Virtual Boy was a complete failure but to save face and the system Nintendo launched it again. This time it had VB Mario packed right in. also packed in was a video showing upcoming games but in between each game it showed how to properly set up your VB. Some of the games mentioned like The Legend of Zelda Crimson Orb, And Metroid Hidden Virus. And Kid Icarus the lost land. Ultimately because Nintendo did a better launch and people now understand how to properly set up a VB. After all a New system deserves a full explanation of how it should be set up. The Launch did well even though the system was down to $20.00 the games were still at $30.00. Eventually because the system wasn’t abandoned other licensees joined in too. Soon Konami was in and Capcom as well. So we had games like Axelay Burning Sun and Strider 3.

Three years later Nintendo Unveils the Virtual One system because now the “boy” has fully grown up it is now and entity. The Virtual one is a full color HMD.

Today we have even better systems and it’s all because of the relaunch of the VB!……Oh we can dream can’t we.

Let’s not forget Vertical Force one of the only games w/ 100% 3D sprites and bosses!

Kit23 and I celebrated with cupcakes at our favorite store Happy B day VB!>8

I find this version of Snatcher by far the best for two reasons. For one it’s 3d for another since it’s red it allows the user to create the color. The colors in Snatcher the cd game are quite dated but this version the player after a long period of time the player starts to see modern colors. I am wondering are there any plans for battery back up? In closing It just seems that the homebrew is getting better and better. You really cannot call these two last games homebrew at all it’s more like something far greater some kind of hybrid.
