I thought that there may have even been a second game in the fuzzy area beneath the two Virtual League Baseballs, but then I determined that they must be V-Tetris and Waterworld. It all depends on how the computer would alphabetically sort “V-Tetris” in relation to the other “V” games, but computers do seem to sort “V-T” as “VT.”

Seriously, there is nothing else.

Three eastereggs spotted, when including the filename. Can anyone spot more than three? I assume the date not being set to April 1st does not count as another (weird kind) one? 😉

P.S. Nice progress!

Okay, I must have no idea of what counts as an Easter egg, because I only see one.

I have no idea what guys are talking about.

Who said anything about nationalities? This isn’t related to the SU games (except in the sound engine and some other code).

Ahh, I got that wrong.

The fact that you play as a russian an the terrorists are from the usa gives the game a cool twist.

I made some minor changes to the editor lately. It now patches the correct music and control scheme on the 1-1 Test. I also added a 1-1 Flash button to make testing easier.

I only added a couple of new levels but we should be done soon. I attached a screenshot so you guys can see how the final editor looks like. Also you get a sneak peak at level 2-2.

Still Not completely sure on the whole Faceball shipping thing. Will we be getting them around the same time the Boxes will be available?

And Additionally, I have NO idea what the Faceball re-master is. Is it like, the real version only with additional levels?

The original Faceball Prototype only has 14 very easy levels. The remastered version has 56 all new levels. On top of that there are several other changes like a reactivated enemy that was hidden in the rom, all of the music available in the ROM now plays during the game, the controls have been improved, the start-logo has been changed to an English version, a hidden image in the stage-select screen has been reactivated, the broken arena mode and the debug menu have been deactivated and the credits have been changed. There is even a level-editor that is pretty simple to use.

There is a whole thread where that crazy guy who does all of that hacking-stuff posts about his progress. He recently had some help though.

But imagine using THIS to form the line-drawings:

Some provision would have to be made for removing the EL wire for washing (velcro would lend itself well to the project); but I for one would love to see a shirt lighting up in say, a movie theater, or other dark place…

Keith Apicary (Nathan) DID use that stuff for his VB shirt. Hey… Is he on this site? I haven’t seen him since I lived in LA.

He is but he only shows up once or twice a year. Usually because he announces something or tells us that he bought something cool.

There is an eyeshade including the plastic piece on ebay right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eyeshade-Visor-Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-/121088342307?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item1c316d7923

25$ is rather expensive though.

The seller also sells a stand: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-3D-Virtual-Boy-Table-Stand-VB-legs-/121088332565?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item1c316d5315

which is even more expensive (75$).

Also 25 of the faceball proto’s are coming….Vince will sell these in his store cib. If you don’t get one of the 70 carts i’m giving away for free..this will be a way for you to get a cib set.

I might have missed this but was there an announcement of who gets one of the free Faceball cards? Because… people might freak out and buy it from Vince without knowing there is already a free card on the way to them…

I recently located my long lost VB and I need help finding replacement parts. I am in need of a new visor and the connector piece for the legs. The leg connector seems pretty well broken.

Is there a good site to locate spare parts other than ebay? I don’t have a large pool of funds to buy parts for as expensive as I have seen them on there. Is there perhaps a group out there that makes reproductions of the visor? It seems like the hardest part to find.

I just discovered this site and could really use a hand in restoring my system to it’s former glory.

Thank you!

This is an easy and cheap replacement to fix your broken stand: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4984&forum=3

No idea where to find a new visor. I was looking for one for some time without any luck.

The controller looks so much better with the colored buttons.

Ah ha! So you’re the one who snagged that BIN on Ebay recently. 😉 Very nice catch, by the way.

Another recent addition to my Virtual Boy collection is a prototype VB controller, which is the kind of controller that was used in the prototype Virtual Boy systems that were set up at trade shows where the VB made an appearance, namely the Shoshinkai Software Exhibition of 1994 and the Winter Consumer Electronics Show of 1995.

Question — is it possible to have two sprites (stored images of characters) instead of one fed to both screens, so that the sprite itself looks 3D? I heard rumors once of 3D cameras able to capture images for the VB.

Yes.

Who is “M.K.”? Would he be willing to do more on it, or release the source?

Maybe Greg Steven’s “Starwars” will outdo “Zero Racers”.

🙂

He is the guy who programmed VB Racing. You should check it out. It is pretty cool. I don’t know if he still reads posts at planet vb. I totally understand if someone doesn’t want to share his sources. I don’t like doing it either as I always feel I have to polish everything to a perfect level to not embarrass myself.

I have high hopes for the Star Wars game too. It is one of those games that are really impressive in 3D. I hope he is eventually releasing his engine. Would be cool to have some tool support for it…

Just finished new super mario bros. U. Incredible fun game even though the formula gets old. Most of the time the game is pretty easy but getting all of the star coins on the star boulevard was quite challenging at times.

With a little bit of polish ‘Capitan Sevilla II’ could make a great repro. It already has great graphics. I don’t know how long the game is though as I usually die on the third or fourth screen or so. The controls are making the game rather hard to play right now. I know it is difficult to program good jump&Run controls but the game is already on such a good level that it’s the only real pain-point left.

I haven’t tried that one yet! I have it downloaded (“Capitan.vb”), and the “Star Wars” demo. I guess I’ll try them this weekend.

I seriously commend you on your work (I’ve played “Fishbone” and some others); I wish we could have homebrew-games that exploit the 3D effect. What about “Gosub 3D”? Haven’t tried that either; is it really 3D? I imagine how fun it would be to dodge TORPEDOES like it is to dodge missiles in “Red Alarm”…

‘Capitan Sevilla II’ is graphic wise really great. Like Fishbone, it doesn’t utilize the 3D effect though. It is rather easy to display something in 2D on the VB as you can simply draw sprites with a specific depth. That’s how the depth effect in Fishbone works.

I agree that a homebrew that actually utilizes the 3D as part of the game mechanics would be great. Obviously, realizing a game like that needs more planning and some experiments before the actual development can start. I had several games in mind that would work like that. I actually already started on a fighting-game that would be like that once but then git sidetracked with Fishbone and then even more sidetracked with Faceball.

I wish VB Racing would be more of a complete game. A look into the sources would be interesting as well. It shouldn’t be to complected to make a full game out of it if the sources would be available either. I understand that this is a boring task though.

Licensed PAL carts should be the same size. If you’re talking about HES carts or other unlicensed cartridges you might find some differences.

I have a handful of licensed PAL carts, a HES PAL cart and a few others along with all 677 US licensed, and loads of unlicensed, homebrew and converted carts.

What game(s) were you running into issues with?

I was talking about licensed pal cards. I have problems with every game including metroid and castlevania. I just wanted to make sure I don’t miss anything brfore I complain which I did by now. There is a replacement on the way so thanks for the quick responses.

In almost 1400 words there’s no mention of the 15 Feb 2010 email, and nothing about jojobean’s attempt to scam the owner of Faceball with faked Zero Racers source code… Whether you think we’re all deluded or lying or simply mistaken I don’t know, but your suggestion that by doing what we did we somehow “screwed up much greater things for the rest of us” is totally unfounded.

It seems that you are getting angry about certain things, because you yourself are in the dark about many things. You write of DogP, as if he was the one and only “owner” of Faceball. Read the thread again and observe some of the specific discussion that occurred between jojobean and DogP. It would not make sense that such discussion would have occurred between jojobean and DogP, if jojobean was not very well aware of another source, who had BOTH Faceball and Dragon Hopper.

You must trust me when I say with firmness: people’s actions on this forum at that time very likely caused that genuine source of Dragon Hopper never to release his version of the game ever. I cannot explain any more details concerning that source.

PAL and NTSC (america) NES carts are bigger than Famicom (Japan) carts.. but they are smaller and the card itself is more narrow, but theres no difference from one gray NES-cartridge from another.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking as well… still, I can get any NES card into that damn adapter. I guess I will have to ask for an replacement…

HorvatM wrote:
I thought you knew how to do that, since you said you removed the menu from the title screen.

I just removed the images by changing the window parameters and disabled the down control. No idea how to put somthing else there. But I think if you could access the control scheme by pressing select while the start screen is displayed it would by pretty cool.

You have to tell me some day how you added a screen….

Distributing or selling commercial games, even if translated, is very illegal. Don’t do it. I won’t allow it to happen.

Somehow I never get your point. You ‘allowed’ the reproduction of bound high and space pinball. Also, you never tried to stop the release of faceball. All of those games are copyright protected.

Roms of the translatated games have been published and you ‘allowed’ that as well. However, if someone starts a none profit project and tries to distribute a very small number of modified games you jump in and ruin it?

For me it looks like you don’t bother about copyrights at all. You just like to be the guy who has a different opinion.

Just as a side note: I have seen translated Roms been published on NA with the explicit request to not use them for reproductions. However, there is a group of people that doesn’t care and simply makes money by reselling those translations as physical cards. Multiple people tried to stop them by blaming them to the original copyright holders, web-hoster and so on. Nothing changed there.
