Heh… well, technically it is likely very brand new, as in all contents could have been made within the last couple of months or so. 😉

A similar deceit has been posted before, but I want to post another case here.

A “brand new” allegedly complete-in-box copy of Space Invaders Virtual Collection is listed here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Space-Invaders-Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-Game-Brand-New-Rare/254576003105?hash=item3b45e98821:g:G00AAOSwCFBen3wU

Both the listing’s price for the game as well as the description in the listing would lend one to think that everything about it is genuine. Nevertheless, the pics in the auction clearly show visible folded flaps on the bottom of the box, similar to what the North American Virtual Boy games had (pics attached).

A genuine Japanese Space Invaders Virtual Collection box has no such folded flaps, as shown here:

I have to add this Yahoo! Auctions Japan one here:

I believe this seller has been posting and re-posting this rare Virtual Boy poster for at least 4 years now, maybe even a couple more. I’m wondering if anyone else can confirm the length.

As time goes on, the price only increases; it never decreases. I think I remember seeing it when it was around 85,000円.

To be sure, it is a very rare poster. In fact, it is the only one that I have ever seen of its kind for sale, since I joined VB collecting over 9 years ago. Still, no collector seems to want to pay the price for it, so it could be on Yahoo! Auctions Japan for many years to come.

Some days ago I contacted Jim Wornell…

Neat! Too bad he hasn’t had much to add to the story, but it’s cool that he responded to you about it.

For Dragon Hopper, I’d be satisfied if just the whole original story of the game got released. It was probably written all out at some point, and just getting those notes would be great.

Here’s a large 22″ x 36″ Virtual Boy double-sided poster…

I take it the other side looks precisely the same as this one?

Very nice! I wonder how many more Midway Classics there will be?

Yes, I have already had the Skee Ball in my collection for a while but I have not seen the Whac A Mole before. I’ll keep my eyes open for one!

Thanks for sharing the article!

I can’t read Japanese without translation software assistance, but one of the photos in the article caught my interest, so I translated its caption. The caption reads:

A Holmes-type stereo photo viewer made over 100 years ago.
There’s a good reason why they have a similar shape.

I am wondering if anybody has heard from M.K. lately and would be able to let us know if he is okay. I’ve tried e-mailing him at an address that he used to use, but I haven’t gotten any reply. It is the only private contact method that I’ve ever had for him.

As one of the higher contributors toward his VB Music Tracker and Bombenleger game, I don’t even care if he is not able to follow through with that project for some reason. Since he contributed so much to the Virtual Boy community free of charge, I would simply consider my support for that to go towards all of the other wonderful things that he did for us over the years.

I hope it is possible that we can find out that he is okay, so that we don’t have to keep worrying needlessly. If something tragic did, in fact, happen to him, and we might never find out what, then that would be really heart-breaking.

Nice acquisition! The cart certainly has a lot going good for it, and it strongly appears that what you got there came completely from a development team back in the 90’s, so I’d consider it to be fully genuine, whatever designation one might want to give to the cart itself.

If you truly love collecting rare Virtual Boy items, I wouldn’t worry about what others have to say about assessment of worth. An avid Virtual Boy collector has no choice but to put a higher value on a rare VB item than anyone else on the planet, who might be interested in the item available at the time, if he or she wants to add it to the collection.

Nintendo Power Issue # 80 indicates that THQ had plans to localize Virtual Fishing for the North American market. Perhaps that explains why the chips come from Texas Instruments. Maybe this was a cart that came from the development team localizing the game for the USA, who would have ordered their own separate EPROM chips and would have had all the development hardware available to them, along with access to the original source code. They could have simply made the cart quick for demonstration, before having done any work on translating or other changes to the code.

Looks pretty “handy” 🙂

And here, I had already lost all hope…

Gotta make my way to Wal-Mart soon! 🙂

Excellent work!

For the time being, I DO still have my Jugemu magazines, as they were not stored in the same location when the flood happened. Nevertheless, I might be listing all of them on ebay in the near future, as I already have everything from them that I need.

Thankfully, none of my majorly valuable Virtual Boy items got damaged in the flood, besides my loose instruction booklets for Waterworld and USA Jack Bros.

For anyone who might find this thread and hope that I still have these magazines, so that additional scans of certain pages could be made for other systems, please note that I, unfortunately, had these magazines stored in a basement that had never flooded before, but about a year ago, it flooded, and all my Marushō Super Famicom Magazines got horribly damaged and had to be thrown away. I was thankful that I had already scanned all of the Virtual Boy-related pages, as that was the only reason why I had purchased the magazines.

Beautiful box you made there. Great work!

I wasn’t expecting Nintendo ever to give THAT much of an appearance of the Virtual Boy in one of their recent games. I am so glad to see that!
