That was me who won the entry form. I also own a NBC/BLOCKBUSTER “Must See 3-D Sweepstakes” Brochure that has an official entry form attached to the last page, but I never seen one just from NBC. I contacted the seller and he said it came from a store called eb games, said he purchased a few games and they just threw that in the bag.

Cool! Can you post pics of all the other pages of the NBC/BLOCKBUSTER “Must See 3-D Sweepstakes” Brochure, too?

US games were definitely sealed, both mine have the same tabs.

Yeah, I have to take back my previous statement about the hang tabs not being put there by the original manufacturers of the games. I have a freshly opened, 6-piece box of Virtual League Baseball in my collection, and sure enough, when I checked the games again, each of the sealed games had a hang tab, which obviously must have been put there by the manufacturer of the game. The games rest on their sides in the box, so I hadn’t noticed the tags before when I would simply look inside the 6-piece shipping box.

Well, these tabs must either fall off easily over time or else people like to remove them, because my entire North American VB game collection is of sealed games, and none of them have their original hang tabs, save for the extra copies of Virtual League Baseball in the 6-piece box.

Dude… I think I just experienced what you experienced. I don’t know if I experienced it because of the power of your suggestion or because it is a genuine characteristic of the shirt, but I sensed the slight “sinking” of the lines into the shirt as the shirt went into brighter light.

The way I did it was that I stood in my bathroom while holding the shirt in front of me, with the only lights on in the room being the mirror cabinet lights above the sink. I held the shirt between me and the cabinet’s lights and looked closely where the lines on the shirt met the Virtual Boy logo. When I was facing the lights and, thus, the shirt was dark, everything on the shirt appeared to be in the same plane, but when I rotated myself around and the lines meeting the Virtual Boy logo began to get brighter, they also began to seem as if they were slightly behind the Virtual Boy logo and, thus, no longer in the same plane with it.

Thus, if you were trippin’, then I be trippin’, too. 🙂

I’ve never seen tabs on VB games (but I only collect JP), did they definitely come with them?

Come to think of it, I’ve not seen sealed US VB games either..

You are right L_E_T they never came sealed, let alone with tabs.

North American Virtual Boy games definitely came sealed originally (with the horizontal seam on the back), while the Japanese Virtual Boy games were not sealed by the manufacturers.

Nevertheless, hang tabs were later added to the sealed games by the stores that sold them, so the hang tabs were not put there by the original manufacturers of the games.

Therefore, if a person wants to add a hang tab to his or her sealed games, any old hang tab will do, since the stores simply purchased any old hang tabs to put on their games.

Thanks for the idea! I made a set of cases as you described. I also made laser/machine cut-able templates for the foam inserts (with and without VB font logo).

Attached image is what they look like when done.

Files for everything here.

Looks great!

The VB logo in the foam insert is a very nice touch.

I’ve been mulling over an idea for a game…

Holy crap… your idea sounds epic!

Making a game like that for the Virtual Boy would truly be revolutionary!

I found a “monkey wrench” system recently:

The Japanese Virtual Boy system with serial number V10131707 has “PLAYLINK” on it. It could be the case that it was intended for this unit to have its “PLAYLINK” label removed and replaced with the “EXT.” label, but such got overlooked somehow.

I actually own the Panic Bomber VidPro title card, the only one I have ever seen for sale, its also the very one pictured on this site in the VidPro section with all the other cards. I def agree that these cards are practically nonexistent. I got my eyes open for that Dragon Hopper one myself 🙂

Yeah… ever since I started following the Virtual Boy market in April of 2011, I have only ever seen VidPro cards for Panic Bomber and Vertical Force for sale. It seems that there would have been many of these cards made at one point, but it also seems that almost all of them got disposed of by the stores that had them, unfortunately.

If you ever manage to get the Dragon Hopper one, please share pics!

Here’s a Nintendo order form from VidPro International for a 5×7″ VidPro Pocket Plak System. It mentions a Hardware and Accessory Pak for the Nes, Game Boy, Super Nes and Virtual Boy. It also mentions a Virtual Boy 1995 New Release Subscription.

I don’t suppose you have any actual VidPro cards for any Virtual Boy games in your collection, which you plan to post in the future? Finding any of them is practically impossible, and I would certainly love to be able to find the legendary one for Dragon Hopper.

Runnerpack, im not sure what kind of paper their printed on but the pages are very thin. I think its that kind of receipt paper if i was to write on the first page it would transfer my writing onto the other pages.

Is the paper about 11 inches long by 8.5 inches wide? If not, what are the length and width of the paper?

Heres a nintendo order form for Game Pak Browser Systems. It mentions a VB “spin-page paddle” and a VB “flip-page paddle” for the browser systems. Store managers had to choose wich system would be suitable for their location and then order either a “spin-page” frame or a “flip-page” frame and then had to choose how they would’ve wanted to complete the browser system with 8 different options to choose from. Although none of this stuff mentioned was available at the time they received these order forms. Im not sure if any of this actually ever did become available.

So how do you suppose this was to work? Was it that a prospective Virtual Boy customer would have been able to walk up to such a Virtual Boy browser system, press a button or something to have the contraption flip through the pages of available games to play, and then the contraption would have inserted the chosen Virtual Boy game pak into a VB system by itself, all behind a protective glass or something, so that the cartridges could not have been stolen by customers?

Sounds pretty darn cool to me.

Not sure if this is something that everyone has seen before or if its something thats not already posted to this site but I figured now would be a good time to share this.
(Hopefully everyone can zoom in and read it pretty clearly)

20 years ago sometime in 1995, stores were getting ready for the AUGUST release of the VIRTUAL BOY. Pictured below is a set of VB DISPLAY ORDER FORMS consisting of four different colored pages. The first page is white and is the NOA MERCHANDISING copy, the second page is yellow and is the NOA REGIONAL MANAGER copy, third is pink and is the SALES REP copy and the fourth page is orange and is the CUSTOMER copy. All pages have a NINTENDO warranty on the back of them and all pages have the same information.

Notice how it doesn’t mention the VB FLOOR MODEL DISPLAY, is this because stores had to order the COUNTER DISPLAY and the mentioned PEDESTAL DISPLAY BASE to form a FLOOR MODEL? It doesn’t mention the small VB PLATFORM DISPLAY either, is this because it was only a BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO exclusive? Also has anyone ever seen the mentioned VB POSTER?

Thanks for looking and HAPPY 20TH

That’s a very interesting piece of Virtual Boy history. Thanks very much for sharing! 🙂

Also, do you guys think I should get the Flashboy?

Definitely yes. I can’t imagine there ever being a single person who bought a FlashBoy Plus and then later regretted the purchase. It’s worth much more than what Richard asks for it.

Nice! Thanks!

Thanks, and you’re welcome.

Hopefully KR155E will soon be able to add the English translation guide in Post #20 to Virtual Fishing’s “Cheats & FAQs” section as well as add the English instruction booklet to the respective “Manuals” section, so that these will be able to be found easily by anyone in the future.

Attached to this post is the English version of the instruction booklet for Virtual Fishing, which I made by applying my English translations to all of the appropriate sections within the original Japanese instruction booklet.

Yeah that would be a good spot. I know I read through the game reviews when looking at the potential games I wanted.

I don’t want to step on your toes here either, I was at work and didn’t quite read your full post. If you do have the time and are willing to I’ll let you do it. If however you don’t feel like doing it then I can step in.

Either way I think it’s a good idea

Oh no… you wouldn’t be stepping on my toes. Please feel free to do it. I was only planning to do it if nobody else stepped up, but even then, it wouldn’t have been for a while.
