No worries, it was only a server error caused by a few PHP executions that exceeded the process limit and began scuffling around the system as zombie processes, eating brains and infecting the whole server. Homebrew game idea, anyone? 😀
So Nintendo has revised the medallion on later models? Interesting find! Everybody check their stand medallions! 🙂
@RunnerPack: I want to cut out one 2:40 segment from the above video and mirror it. Would love to add subtitles with the help from someone who can supply a translation.
This looks neat-o! Promises to give developers a great new tool in their hands, in combination with your engine! I just hope this isn’t an april fools, but I am confident that the unreleased game reference hidden in your video is the actual joke. 😀
Woah, I am away for a day and the site gets hacked… Restored it to normal. 😉
Sigh, indeed. I guess I’ll be more interested in Project Morpheus from now on. Unless Facebook has another spare 20 billion to spend and buys Sony, of course…
I know what everybody’s thinking now… but rest assured that Planet Virtual Boy will never be sold to Facebook. 😀
I was one of the original backers of Oculus Rift on Kickstarter and have had my Dev Kit for about a year now. It covers almost your complete field of view and with it’s head tracking, puts you in the middle of the virtual world where you can freely look around. I shouted out loud when I was first standing in the tuscany demo! It’s extremely immersive. After a little while, I almost forgot that I was standing in a virtual room.
The first dev kit has a lot of limitations. A low-res display, causing large pixels – the so called the screen door effect. If you don’t move your head slowly, you notice a lag, so latency could be better. And not all movements in all directions are detected; for example you could not lean to the side to peek around a corner.
All these things will be fixed or at least must less noticeable with the new dev kit. I don’t know if I’ll get it or wait for the consumer version this time, though.
One thing is for sure, the consumer version will change gaming!
Red Alarm uses both D-Pads combined to let the player steer in any direction in a 3-D room.
In Teleroboxer each D-Pad + Trigger controls one hand.
VUE Snake has a “Double” mode where you control two snakes at once, one with each D-Pad.
BLOX 2 has a similar mode, where you control two players at once to solve the puzzles.
In a Virtual Boy Zelda version, I’d use the right D-Pad to place items on it.
Another thing I could imagine is to let the user switch between left- and right hand modes.
I hope that can give you some inspiration. 🙂
Wow, looks like the seller has a complete collection for sale! All items seem to be in pretty good to mint condition, too.
thunder, I totally see your point and I can tell you that 4 out of the 7 games you mentioned where/are, among other things, responsible for me not getting my entry done. Damn game industry, sabotaging our coding competition! 😉
Well, understood, the next competition, in case there will be one, should happen during the summer, when not that many great games come out.
Respect for still getting something done! I am sure it will be great. 🙂
I quote the manual found here:
Dev Mode: The Loader has a special option for developers, which allows to flash homebrew ROMs in just a few seconds. First of all load your padded homebrew onto the cart (this sets up the reset vectors at the end of the flash). Then, select “Dev” in the menu under “Mode” and then load your smaller file. Once the reset vectors are in place, the loader just erases and loads the required portion of flash resulting in very low flashing times.
Great to hear that you got it working! 🙂
Make sure to always remove the FlashBoy cart from the Virtual Boy before flashing it! So, yes, the behavious is normal.
Looks like he has taken down all content. That’s not good. 🙁
Get the latest VBDE from the link below. It allows you to compile your code and run it in Mednafen with the click of a button. It comes with some sample projects you can modify to get started.

Great little tease, you crazy code wizard! Looking forward to the VB library being expanded by a factor of 100 or so. Finally, as some wil say, Pokémon Red will be literally that. 😀
Here’s the updated poster, plus a wallpaper version of the artwork.

I can’t reproduce that error. Does it still happen for you or might it have been a temporary problem caused by the server being down or something? If it’s still happening, does it happen for all PMs or just one PM/conversation?
Thank you very much for the valuable feedback, Lester! You just gave me a good idea, which I’ll add to the new forums asap. 🙂
The current design does only show the user avatar and name and the actual post. On mouseover, additinal information becomes visible. This additional information does not currently include the user’s origin, post count or join date. I will consider adding this information.
I’ll not become a friend of signatures, though. I think these additional information about a person belong to another place. If someone desires to find out more about another poster, all info shall be in his user profile page.
I shall probably prepare a demo of the new forums to incorporate you guys in the bulding process…
Yes, there is. I think that signatures are totally unnecessary. They add absolutely no value to a conversation, while the cost is cluttered threads with huge sigs that distract from the actual postings, and higher loading times. I have seen scary things. 😉
I definitely prefer minimalistic setups. Therefore the forums on the next version of Planet VB will be much cleaner than the current and put total emphasis on the postings themselves.
I hope people can manage to live well without stuff like signatures. 😀
