Yes, Japanese games can be played on US Virtual Boys and vice versa. The hardware is internally identical, and some games (for example Mario’s Tennis and Galactic Pinball) are identical in their American and Japanese versions.

Not to rail it in your head if you don’t need to hear it, but Jap is a racist term. JPN is the “PC” abbreviation for Japanese, and will save you lots of heat in the future on internet forums and elsewhere in life.

The “Collapsed Eyepiece Syndrome” is a real downfall of the console. I find myself constantly moving my head up, down, and all around to keep all edges perceptionally sharp. ( I made up the word “perceptionally, mind you”.)

Even if it was the same prob, the video game market caters to a completely different audience in 2011 than the way things were way back in 1995. Back then I’d say the majority of gamers were practically exclusively male children that needed to ask for games from their parents, and male teenagers with a limited income that still would often still ask their parents instead of buying their own games. Today we have both male and female children, teenagers, and adults. There’s little stigma these days about video games being “nerdy”, it’s now a commonly accepted form of entertainment with a variety of games that can appeal to pretty much everyone. Even with the state of the economy, there’s just worlds more money flowing in this industry. As long as launch software sales can make up for the initially subsidized hardware manufacturing costs, the release of the 3DS won’t be a complete waste.

I’m just saying that even if the 3DS was is flop, I still think that kind of flop would be at least 10x as successful as the VB was.

If there’s such a thing as a convention for cats dressed like pirates, I nominate that location.

Well it seemed you were giving him a hard time, basically making him feel inferior to you when you were at that age. Being interested in the VB doesn’t automatically make you interested in electronics and such…

We were just yankin’ his chain, man. Like I said, at his age I was a total screw up. Even though at his age I was no adult, I didn’t feel like a “just a little boy”. Possibly a poor choice of words on his and my part in response, but I didn’t want him to talk about himself in such an manner lacking confidence on a freakin’ video game forum.

This is the real world, and we’re all here for games. Some can dev homebrews, some can’t. Some can/want to afford boxed Virtual Bowling carts, some can’t or don’t care.

No, I don’t know VB-X’s situation. I don’t dislike the kid nor did I mean to be cruel to him. I just wanted him to man-up and feel like he could converse with us and not feel like “just a little boy”. If he is “just a little boy”, he’s not exactly going to enjoy his stay on any forum. I may sound harsh, but at least I’m being honest. For the time being, I’ll take his choice of words as a fluke, same as mine if they were in poor taste.

I regret ever posting in this thread. I feel bad if I hurt VB-X’s feelings, and my true honest opinions may be too harsh. I’d rather tell the truth than be a liar, but I guess I should shut my trap at times.

Anyway, I’d really like to wait for a Red&black one too.
Also, Nintendo region locked the darn thing. I’m going to have to wait and see if cool Japanese-only titles stay JPN exclusive before I plunk down the crazy cash on an import. I can read Japanese well enough to get by, but I’m not as fluent or nearly as comfortable as I am playing games that require reading in my native tongue.

I’ll probably get a US black one at launch since I’m so impatient, then sell it on ebay if I want to go the import route by the time Japan gets a Red & Black version or a cool exclusive color. I’ve always been a sucker for Special-edition consoles.

Have the times changed that much?? I was modding my consoles, ditching school, trying pot, smoking cigarettes and stealing my dad’s beer with friends, and even got arrested for dumb petty childish vandalism when I was 13.

Now I may not be the best influence, but jeez, break apart an old digital clock or remote and practice soldering wires to random connections. You’ll catch on, on day one even I’d bet. Also get some flux and solder wire/braid for desoldering to keep in your kit.

Heck, I didn’t have a super reliable search engine like Google nor step by step youtube tutorials when I was 13.

Anyhoo, the first time I attempted to change a battery like this as a kid I failed. This is a small community and I doubt any member that’s not brand new here would rip you off, man. If someone with 2 posts that registered in 2011 says they’ll fix it for you, I’d be concerned. Otherwise, take the darn help that’s offered to you. Teleroboxer isn’t worth beans anyway, it’s not worth the shipping cost alone for a loose cart to a collector. I just gave away a free Virtual Fishing to a collector here too. Overall I’d say I’ve had ZERO issues in the VB scene.

I remember even though there was a coupon, my mother was pretty pissy with me and said I couldn’t rent it since I was going to buy it. I was also 12 years old at the time and one of those kids with the luck of having a summer B-day.

I was so f***ing amazed with VB. First stereoscopic experience. While it wasn’t virtual reality, ’twas leaps ahead of the anaglyph 3D movies I knew all too well. I was so impressed as a 12 year old kid, makes you wonder why we had to wait until I was almost 28 to see stereo again this year on 3DS. I hope it delivers,
