It’s actually the first Wario Land game that I really played – I played all Mario Land titles for Game Boy/NES/SNES/NDS/3DS (only Wii I still have to put my hands on 😉 ) and enjoyed them tremendously, but never catched on to the Wario Lands. Maybe I should revisit the Game Boy versions now! 🙂

Unfortunately, the only Wario Land game similar to this one is Super Mario Land 3 on Gameboy. That one is a lot longer, and has more treasures, but seems repetitive at times. Great game though, and Mario makes a cameo at the end. 😉

My favorite Wario Land, though, is either this one(it was designed for speed-runs, and it’s the most fun) or Wario Land 4. Wario Land 4 is not as long as Wario Land 3, but it is very cool and bizarre. The music and graphics are great, and best mini-games ever! 🙂

I’m confused, are the last 15 games just the first 50? I would really like to get a copy.

Also, is there any way to just get the cart?

Nice job getting all the treasures!

I really like Wario Land, it’s one of my favorite platformers now, and way better than Wario Land 2, 3, Shake It and Disguise. Wario Land 4 though is the best one for me, as well as my favorite GBA game. 🙂

I do wish that there were at least a few extra levels in the game, as it seems short compared to Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, and it’s very easy to go through the game as just King Dragon Wario, the main theme is a little short and annoying, and the keys and treasures’ locations don’t change in hard mode.

Despite all those minor complaints, the game is endlessly repayable, with all 7 endings to get, as well as just being extremely fun and inventive. The intro is really cool, the hard-mode is a great addition(despite mostly being spiked balls galore) I love jumping into the backgrounds, the game is better than some Mario games(I daresay it’s better than Super Mario 3) the mini-game room is absolutely wonderful, and the final boss fight is incredible, and I prefer the Awazon Genie to the Golden Dina in Wario Land 4.

And here’s my list of favorite levels from best to least best, then bosses

Levels

6(great waterfall part, introduction of King Dragon Wario)
9(watermelons 🙂 )
5(sprawling forest, and the Chippy natives are funny)
10(ginormous fun-house, great fun flying around, but giant mini-boss balls are too easy)
7(nice desert music, the palm trees are a nice touch)
11(great fun, but seemed somewhat linear for a later level)
13(I like the original music, and running through the swinging spiked balls one last time is awesome, mostly just linear though)
3(beautiful water theme, the fish enemies re-appeared in Wario Land 4, and now I can kill them, which was awesome 🙂
1(intro stage, linear, but an intro stage. I love the frogs 🙂 )
2(I actually like stage 1 a little better for some reason, still great though)

Bosses

Awazon Genie(no brainer, takes most hits, fun, has extra attack in hard mode, laughs when you die 🙂 )

Fish Ball-Chain guy(love running through his ball and chain, like it when he shakes the ground)

Desert Worm thing(really cool background, suspense)

Robot(he feels cheap at times, but I love the little guy that controls him)

I hope you continue to play one of the best platformers of all time and have many fun hours like me. 🙂

There may actually be a 3rd way to fix the VB, but you’ll need an AC adapter.

Some people say that if you leave the system on for a whole day, this itself heats up the glue, and the problem is fixed.

I’ve never tried it myself, but that may be your best fix. 🙂

I’ve played Champion Boxing(or Campion Boxing) on the awesome SG-1000. While that system has many great games, his one is not. I have a CIB copy of it. The only redeeming factors about it are that it is Yu Suzuki’s first game, and that Pengo makes a cameo appearance. 🙂

There are two methods to fix this. I used to oven method, and it works pretty good.

Now apparently, there is a third trick. If you leave the system on for a VERY long time, this itself heats up the glue and will work as well. I am not sure how well this works though.

I’ve never gotten a headache from the Virtual Boy. Actually, I do, but it’s the pressure of the unit resting on my face. 🙂

Actually, I get used to 3D to the point where I don’t see it as much. The 3DS gave me little headaches, but now 3D does nothing for me.

Virtual Boy is a great system, too bad it never caught on. My only regret is that Wario Land had too much King Dragon Wario and need 6 more stages. 🙂

This is really exciting! Thank you Eric for doing this for the community! I will buy a copy of Faceball when it comes out. I still hope you at least have one Virtual Boy left with Wario Land and Mario Clash. 🙂

On the other hand, would Zero Racers be much easier to get than Dragon Hopper? It is not talked about as much. And it would be great for the F-Zero fans.

I wonder how the guy with the rom was found.

So far have all three Mario games for this system.

Fun, fun, fun! 😀

Really nice last video, though Mario Clash should have been a bit higher on the top 23. 😉

You should make reviews of other games, not just Virtual Boy games. Your reviews are very informative.

Well, I decide to use the oven method, and for now, my Virtual Boy works flawlessly! 😀

I hope this lasts more than a few years. 😉

Thanks for the extremely helpful guide DogP!

Interesting, there were bad batteries in there. Even when I replaced the batteries, there were still some vertical glitchy lines. Not horribly corrupted like before, but I still need to fix it. The odd thing though is that instead of the left eye being corrupted, its the right eye. I ordered the part yesterday incase, and hopefully the fix should go ok. The 3D is extremely impressive though, now that I am able to see it. It’s not eye-popping, but has incredible depth. 🙂

Oh man… I got to see up to Peach when I got the high score that I have posted on this site, but I had no idea what was in store for me after that.

I still hope to see the rest for the first time when I make it to those points in my own high score run on a real Virtual Boy, so I will do my best not to peek at those character medals from the video ahead of time. 😉

The video just makes me want to own the game even more. 😀

Watching the video again, I found something really cool. 🙂

Everything 100,000 points, a different character(s) appears!

100,000-Mario

200,000-Toad

300,000-Yoshi

400,000-Luigi

500,000-Wario

600,000-Peach

700,000-Bowser!!

800,000-Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr.

900,000-Mario, Luigi, and Peach

EDIT:How could there be hate for this classic? Nintendo went all out for this game, and they did a more than ok job.

Still an ending. 🙂

Not a bad ending, but I would have liked to at least see Bowser at some part in the game.

I know this is late, but you can see the whole ending of Mario Clash in this long play. 🙂

It shows the ending at the 1:56:30 mark, and then the guy plays the rest of the 99 stages.

Enjoy! 😀

I’ve seen some auctions on ebay for SG-1000 books. They say in their auctions that the content is from Wikipedia articles, so if you buy the books, it’s your fault.

I’ve played Wario Land on emulation before. I loved it so much I also beat hard mode. It would be cool to play it in 3D. 🙂
