Are you any good at Photoshop? I can take a picture and edit it in Lightroom, but for the actually photoshopping (cutting out the background or whatever) I’m not the best at.
There’s so much great homebrew that deserves to be on that list. Hunter, the Yeti3D demo, pretty much any of the last coding competition entries, hyper fighting…
Nice article, well done! The only thing I noticed that wasn’t pointed out is “Only 140,000
were bought by Americans in
the United States and Canada”
Kind of makes it sound like everyone in Canada is also an American. It would look better as “Only 140,000 were bought by North Americans in the United States and Canada”

And we really need a better picture of a full VB setup, one that doesn’t have terrible lighting and has the stand set up correctly. Do we have any photographers on this site?
How about a hobbyist photographer =P
I do have a DSLR anyway, and I wouldn’t mind giving it a shot.
That actually looks pretty good, good job!
The only thing that takes away from it is that the VB is sitting on a stack of books. I don’t think that would be allowed in an official ad =P
Actually I have a Super Everdrive for my SNES, and a GBC flash cart. I have plans to get Everdrives for the Genesis, NES, and n64 as well. You’re right, they really do work great. I will buy my favorite (and affordable) games, but I just don’t have the space nor funds to have every single game out there. Enter the Everdrive series =P
This could easily be just editing. I’ll believe it when I see a working rom dump available for me to download.
Ah well, I didn’t have a ton of stuff, I mostly miss FFVII, Gran Turismo 2, and this cool memory card with a display on it I picked up when I was in Japan.
Sega had some great games that I missed out on as a kid. I’m really stoked on this sega saturn, There’s some games I remember playing at my cousins house I wanted to play again.
I’ve lost all my PS1 stuff, I think my parents got rid of it after we all moved out. I miss FFVII…
I’ve seen those keyboards around, they’re worth a good little chunk of money. It’s a cool Nintendo piece for sure.
I was never a Sega fan so to speak, I was a Nintendo kid growing up. In the recent years though, I’ve gotten really curious about the other consoles, anything Dreamcast or older. I don’t think I’ll go as far as the Atari Jaguar and the like, though =P
Nice, lots of good PS1 games and the NES keyboard it looks like?
Good pickup.
Yesterday I got a Sega Saturn, model 1 Genesis (That Yamaha chip actually does kick ass), and a PS1 (no games, no controller, makes your pickup look very tantalizing =P).
Helped my friend clean out his attic.
Virtual Boy: Totally Red, to the Max!
(Anybody else remember using rad to the max?)
Nexus 5 here, running 4.4.4 kit kat, soon to be 5.0 lollipop.

Windjammers on the NGCD looks like a really fun head-to-head game. It’s sort of like Pong, but far more exciting and has special throwing moves characters can perform during the game to curve, accelerate, and set the Frisbee on fire.I don’t own a Neo Geo or the CD add-on, but if I did, Windjammers would be one of the first games I’d get.
You’re right, for being a game based on playing Frisbee, it’s very fun. The controls are very responsive, which, along with the fast paced nature of the game makes it a blast to play.
Iron Clad is a great top down shooter, kind of a different angle which looks kind of trippy at first but it plays just the same as the other ones
I can’t remember if Pulstar was listed, again a great shooter, with the R-type option system going on, and some pretty cool pre-rendered graphics.
If you can read Japanese (or if you wanna try and fudge your way through the game =P) Samurai Spirits RPG is an amazing RPG. It’s a real shame it didn’t get an English release, I would love to play this game through to the end.

Haha, I’ve seen this. Yeah, it’s some custom head strap he made. If you look closely there’s velcro glued on the VB head unit.
I love my Neo Geo CD. The controllers work great actually. I actually prefer them to the arcade stick for all but fighting games. The directionals have a tendency to die after lots of use, but it’s pretty easy to fix. I posted a how to video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw5ODJA8vXw
Some great games are Aero fighters 2 & 3, Neo Drift out is a great racing game, and as mentioned twinkle star sprites is very unique. Top Hunter is also a pretty good platformer. Plus the obvious slew of fighting games (which pretty much all rock) and the obligatory Metal Slug games (which also rock).
I’d also suggest a controller extension or two, as the cords are pretty short.

Well, keep on the lookout for other Mansion of Insmouse’s to appear in the near future. They actually appear somewhat regularly on that site at good prices.
Oh I’ll keep a lookout for sure! Good to hear they do appear somewhat regularly.

You’re welcome. I assume you know how to search for all things Virtual Boy on there?Just always do a general search with バーチャルボーイ and see what new treasures can be found. Speaking of which, there is currently a CIB copy of Mansion of Insmouse sitting at about 17 bucks, and its going to end in about 11 hours:
http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r119586154
There’s no telling how low it will sell for, so if you want to add it to your collection, it might be good to jump on. It usually sells for about $120 or more on Ebay, but it can sell for much, much less on Yahoo Auctions Japan.
I figured out the correct katakana spelling off my VB manual, and actually, I put a snipe bid on that exact item! Someone has bid it up since then, its now sitting closer to 50 bucks.

I simply use Buyee, which is the one advertised on Yahoo Auctions Japan. They charge a fee of 500 yen or 10% of the winning auction bid, whichever is larger. Other than that, you pretty much just pay the winning auction amount and the precise shipping charges to get your items shipped from Buyee’s warehouse in Japan to your home address. I have never had a single issue with them ever, so I have always received my items in great condition, without ever having to inquire as to where my shipment is. Buyee also offers the snipe bidding service, so they won’t place your bid until about 5 minutes before an auction ends, which helps the items not be bid up so high.I haven’t checked much into other proxy services, but if the fees for spebid are more than what Buyee charges, then definitely go with Buyee, as it is a very trustworthy proxy service. But if its fees are about the same and if it also offers snipe bidding, then it could also be a good choice.
They charge $30 a year for unlimited buying. You’d think at that price they’d be mentioned everywhere, but when doing research I really can’t find much on them. Maybe I’ll start with buyee, as they sure do make it easy to use with yahoo japan. Thanks again Ben, you’ve been really helpful.

Well, I do know that CIB Japanese Mario Clash Demo games sell on Yahoo Auctions Japan for the same price as the regular Japanese Mario Clash retail games, so for a grand total of about 40.00 to 50.00 US Dollars, which would probably even cover the proxy service fees and international shipping when all is said and done. Chances are, this Ebay seller got these copies for about that amount total and marked them up for some profit. Thus, if you are comfortable with waiting a little bit for one to appear on Yahoo Auctions Japan and paying a total of 50.00 US Dollars or less to get a copy via a proxy service, then do that. Otherwise, if you don’t want to wait and are interested in getting one now, and this price isn’t too much higher to you than the 50.00 US Dollar price that, again, will likely include proxy fees and international shipping, then go ahead and get this one.
In general, it is always best to buy Japanese games from a Japanese site rather than Ebay, if you are looking for the best prices. This is often how Ebay sellers get their inventory stock of Japanese games in the first place, so there is no need to use the Ebay sellers as middlemen for such and put extra money into their pockets. Of course, the Ebay sellers do know very well that the same games that sell for low on the Japanese sites regularly sell for more on Ebay, which is why they continue to see success in their quick buys, markups, and reselling.
Thanks for the info, Ben! It’s definitely good to know. I’ll have to look up how this proxy thing works, never purchased off of a Japanese Auction before. It definitely seems like the way to go, I’m all about saving money =P
Edit: So I looked up the Proxy service, I found spebid, is that one good or do you have a preferred one?

I agree with you guys. It’s a well done video and I enjoyed it, but I don’t agree with his ranking for the games either. Also no mention of the japan exclusive games.

It is fairly rare, and it might sell for close to that amount even on Yahoo Auctions Japan, but I’d say that Yahoo Auctions Japan would be the place to look for a lower price.
Of course, since scans of every single page of the magazine already appear on the site, a lot of people tend not to buy it at all, no matter how low the price, especially if they can’t speak or read Japanese and don’t want to try to take the time to get it translated via translation software, etc.
Oh awesome, I didn’t realize the while thing was on this site.
Is that an OK price for the Mario clash nfr in your opinion?
