I pm’d MineStorm he hasn’t got back with me yet.So I looked at the board again and it looks like the flash chip does actually have a funky pin that looks like it might be a bad solder.
It’s pin 15 which is the RY/BY ‘ready/busy’ pin. So perhaps thats why I’m having funky timeout periods.

I’m gonna heat it up and try to resolder that pin
my quest continues.
Did Richard write the flasher program? I forget if it was him or DogP. Anyway, DogP is another guy that can probably help you, he’s the unofficial VB guru. 😀
This board has been pretty quiet lately so I didn’t think to do an update. Basically I just had two weeks of straight midterms which took a toll on me mentally. And I had a major hard drive failure and had to spend a lot of time recovering data, but it looks like I managed to recover all of my Project VBoot stuff.
As for the boards, I started assembling and discovered one problem right away – the footprint for the bus tranceiver is too narrow, so I will have to fix that. That’s what I get from using that footprint from a manufacturer instead of making it from scratch like the others. I will still be able to do board debugging, I just won’t have VB connectivity on these first boards which is fine. I figured I would have to make a revision anyway, so once I finish getting all my programs re-installed I will start back in fixing the board problems and debugging the memory. All in all this is probably one of the biggest crunches of the semester for me so sorry for the lack of updates.
FPS games tend to be more mature/violent in nature and mario has always been a kid-friendly/innocent mascot. It wouldn’t make sense after all those years of jumping on heads and fireballs to give mario a bazooka to fight bowser.

Posting ebay auctions is kinda’ lame, IMO. I guess it’s normal on these boards, but many other forums completely agree & don’t allow it for obvious reasons.I think auctions should be discussed in Live chat, or only completed items if it’s for discussion’s sake. The small community here that cares have already seen the items. The filthy rich noob or reseller however may have not and it just jacks the prices for the dedicated FEW that actually collect VB stuff.
Do resellers check these forums? You can bet your sweet….*mule* they do.
If the real collectors wanted to share every fantastic auction, why no Yahoo Auction links all the time? Yeah.
/End Rant
Well, it may be a little tacky to post auctions, sure, but I personally don’t have the time to look through the pages of VB auctions every couple days, and it interests me to see what kind of items/auctions are out there.
And also, I don’t usually see auctions posted on this site anywhere except for this thread, so I guess if you don’t like it you don’t have to open it?
That thing is ugly as sin. No wonder it was unreleased.

Don’t harsh on peoples’ religious beliefs. People can believe in whatever they want. Calling their beliefs lame isn’t going to win you any “cool” points, or make you any friends.
I really don’t think he was making fun of religious people, just that religious quotes don’t really have any context when you’re talking about sprites. 😛
When he wrote “The most common reaction I got was, believe it or not, along the lines of “Wow! This is so cool! How did this fail?”
I almost yelled “YES!” at the computer screen, haha. This guy gets it. Thanks for sharing!
Cool. Will you be posting that on the blog? You don’t have to list your supplier(s), or even give prices, but I’d like to see the parts list.
Yeah, but my parts list right now is not set in stone. But I think I know what you’re getting at… the bus transceiver I’m using is this guy, and the uC I’m using is a PIC32MX340F512H. The rest of the parts are pretty self explanatory I think.
I found a couple of 2GB cards for under $9 on walmart.com
Sure, they’re “Dane-elec” and “Sony” brands (read: the cheapest, no-name, hastily-made ones they could find with “Sony” printed on them), but still probably serviceable…
Those will work fine. In my own search for a uSD card I just ended up buying one from the local electronics shop for $10. Usually it’s actually HARD to get them in capacities lower than 2GB, but in this case, 1GB is WAY more than you would ever need, storage wise.
16M (I assume bits) should be enough for the foreseeable future, but that’s quite a price gap…
I agree, it’s pretty stupid but the part literally costs I think $16 more, I can’t help that. I said 20 because I was rounding up a few bucks. It’s an expensive (and dense) technology, and that’s one of the reasons it isn’t used anymore for new designs!
Good news, the first prototype has been ordered!!! When I say “prototype” I mean hardware prototype, since I still have a LOT of software work to do. I just figured it would be easiest to get a board working and go from there.
More good news, I have a BOM (Bill of Materials) worked up and it looks like the cost of the entire cart will be…..
drum roll…..
$69.00 USD.
However, this is WITHOUT ordering anything in bulk, so when I order in bulk that cost will most likely go down. Also, that total does NOT include the cost of a Micro SD card, which usually runs about $10 USD for a 1GB card.
Also, this is for a cart with 16M of SRAM and 256K of Save SRAM. There will be an upgrade option if you want 32M of program space, probably for about $20 more.

Minestorm, as you can see I fixed the audio problem. Thanks for that.

Vertical Force!
I see he edited his description but that doesn’t make any sense, because he already has a copy of Vertical Force in the picture and he already listed it in the auction. So he apparently has two copies of Vertical Force but he only bothered to list one and call the other one a “mystery game”?? That sounds fishy to me.
I don’t care what people talk about in the thread. 😎

I was just looking at your circuit and you haven’t connected –RS_in (55) to RS_out (57)
LS_in (56) to LS_out (58)You won’t get any sound.
Oh shoot yeah. I just skipped over that part because I saw a comment on DogP’s page about using those pins for an audio-enhancement chip and I didn’t realize that they should be connected. Thanks, I’ll fix that ASAP.

Yeah, a Bound High cart would be cool! I was thinking about making a run of carts with boxes and manuals, but it would not be possible without completely custom parts. Now it seems in reach! 🙂 Maybe I’ll finally get around to releasing BLOX 2 on cartridge?BTW, how about making dust caps for that connector?
Why would Bound High carts need custom parts?
DogP
I suppose because Bound High was never released and given the ‘proper VB cartridge treatment’ or whatever you want to call it.
Although, wouldn’t there be some kind of legal issue with selling a cart that has a Nintendo ROM on it like that? Maybe he was talking about just making a cart for himself and not to sell.
Newest update on the PCB is up on my blog. Also, I wrote down all of the information for the VB replacement connector and where you can buy it.
Check it out: Update
Meh, the original Sonic Adventure didn’t do much for me, because a ton of the game is exploring, and to me that just doesn’t fit the sonic franchise. I really liked SA2 though, with the exception of the hunting/gathering missions.
