Looks good, like the moulding route, I have been getitng parts milled with cnc, takes time and i have to rely on another fella to do that part for me.
If it helps i have modelled the stand parts in 3D Solidworks, i can export them to another format if you would like copies. PM me if you do and I’ll email you some over.

I am working on the controller now, but having bit of trouble getting the compounded curves of the body to look right, it will happen its just taking time and fitting in between work stuff.

This guy is a total muppet, no more than that, muppets do amuse me. This guy just don’t get it, he’s made no effort to find out anything about the unit yet goes ahead and does a 8 min review, I couldn’t actually watch it all, his voice just grated on me and i turned it off, not worth the disc space or indeed the time from your life.

Thats real nice fella, congrats and top work.
Have fun 😀

Yeah I remember that one, got a bit of greif too if i remember right.

So would it be the dump thats bad?
How does it play on emulator?

No point in asking if anyone got a dump that does play on flashboy, nobody going to admit they have a copy openly on the forum but IMO VB games need to be played on hardware, nothing else comes close.
I have never had trouble with my flashboy and would dearly love to play Bound High fully on hardware with it.

Uh… the VB shouldn’t care what type of memory it is reading the game from.

Fair enough, I know nothing of these things so that being the case could it have somethng to do with the way the ROM is dumped/flashed to the eproms/flashboy?
Also are these eprom carts official nintendo ones or a homebrew built type of thing, if official nintendo could there be something built into them different to the flashboy?
Like i say I know nothing of how these things work so sorry if its a dumd suggestion but if anyone does know if the same ROM plays good on eprom cart and glitchy on flashboy I’d like to know.

So is the Bound Hign ROM that is glitchy in the Flashboy good played on the VB with an eprom cart?

A good point, especially regarding battery life, using just standard AA you get at least 6 hours from a VB, even using recharables i was getting 3 or 4hours.
I wouldn’t want to play it in a moving car, or on a bus, or even a train (well not one in the UK, they are rubbish trains here) as the motion might affect the spinning mirrors, but I would love to get out the VB on a plane, it would be great to see if it caused some kind of international security incident, I mean how many people on that plane would know what a VB is, so to see someone with thier face stuck in a head unit might freak out a few.

😀 Galactic Pinball: Weird looping random tunes that sound like a crazy remix or some serious circuit bending going on.

What a top description, thats one of my most fave game music ever and your description now makes me wanna go make some twisted electro circuit bending sounds with my Kaosillator, i might have to steal your words if i ever make a track and need some kind of tag line for it.

Sorry no relevance to your problems but you do have the best helping you there with DogP on the case.

The main body of the cart is not that much of a problem to make, it could be cnc milled, i intend on modelling a cart up so the outer case could be machined but the connector strip is a whole different kettle of fish. The holes are so small and the pitch has to be spot on, this looks to me like the hardest bit of a cart to reproduce.
Not sure about copyrights etc, as its essensially a dead machine as far as manufacturing is concerned.
But if by any chance the where abouts of a set of moulds is known then that will open up the possibilities of mass cart manufacturing, cnc milling a batch works but will be expensive. When time is a little more with me I might get a cart case milled to see how long it takes etc.
Would be quite cool to have them clear, which recently i figured could be possible, a bit tricky but possible.

Pocket: Yeah i know solid lump but it cracked, the milling left a sharp internal corner and thats where the crack started, a radius would most likely sort it, but also not having the screws tapped into the plastic has meant that the one i have on now, milled at the same time so it also has the sharp internal corners, is fine and shows no signs of fatigue etc.
I will get the next few done and move the engraving down a little so the through screws don’t foul the writting and als add in a radius around the internal shape to remove the possible fracture points.

Runnerpack: I was gonna put some sprung screws on but couldn’t find any decent springs, so I just attached the new red one with a couple of cap head screws and dome nuts, no washer or springs and it works great.

I will keep on testing and post any relevant results.

If anyone would like my cad drawings for this so you can make your own then PM me and I’ll email you a copy.

2off my prototypes have cracked, but now i know that the screws need to be replaced too.
The medallion needs to be held on with through screws and nuts, using the existing ones tapping into the medallion has meant that in the opening and closing of the legs my new parts all cracked at the corner, see highlite on pic, notice the lighter streak, thats a minor crack (this actually is visable on the main pictures, I just hadn’t noticed it had already cracked when pic was taken). The lug that the screw taps into cracks away form the main body at both screws.

Basically using the existing screws tapped into the medallion means that the lug where the screws tap into wants to stay sitting on the bracket but the rest of the medallion pushes away and cracks at the corner. I think even with radius in there after a while a similar problem would arise, it might be the threads stripping instead of cracking but the cause is the same. Maybe having longer screws that tap deeper into the main medallion body would help but i think thru screws is the correct way to secure this. By using screws that go thru the medallion and secured with nuts the whole medallion moves slightly when opening/closing legs but as the whole thing moves there are no material stresses generated.
I will keep opening closing legs etc and see if i can spot any stresses etc with the one i have on my stand, I think i have now solved the cracking problem so in theory it should be fine.

DogP: The strength seems good, its a chunky piece of material, some more pics of it removed from the stand included. (took with digi cam with a magnifying loop held in front for a v.close up view)
I do want to add a radius on the angled faces where the legs sit against when open, thats the potential weak point at the moment as its a sharp corner, any stress and it might crack there, putting in a radius removes the corner & the possible weak point.

Pocket: Its actually an engraving CNC machine, not really a mill but due to the size of the parts we can make the machine cut them, not that i can program the machine, I prepare the drawings in CAD and the operator imports them to his package and does the cutting.
The material: I agree 100% it should be black with red lettering. Unfortunatly to get black material would cost quite alot just for a small piece so I ended up buying a chopping board (don’t make black ones though), an inch thick, and then we machined off the top and bottom surface to get the medallion a bit thinner. Not sure exactly what type of material it is, some kind of Polypropolene is my guess, but it machines quite well. The engraving could be better, next lot should improve on that, use a flat face rather than point cutter for the lettering.

Once another batch is made i can work out a proper price for these, I hope it don’t work out too much as I really like the idea that these could resurrect quite a few forgotton units with broken stands.

I am liking the concept and if had the knowledge, equipment etc to check my N64 carts i would do so, but that is far beyond me, it would be very interesting if anything did get found and could then be dumped for emulator/flashboy playing.

mmmm didn’t think baseball2 would get many votes.

Thanks DogP, my curiosity is satisfied, well as far as sealed VB games go.

Hey, top call on getting yourself a VB. I personally would recommend Red Alarm above all others, its my fav. Wario is also top title if platformers are your thing.
I fully recommend a flashboy, although it does not have battery save it does mean you can play all the games, ROM’s of which are all out there, and also you get to play homebrew titles on hardware, and if you get real lucky and manage to get a ROM of any of the unreleased or prototype games etc, you can play them on hardware too. (If you do get lucky and want to share i will gladly accept.)
Anyway you are sure to have mucho fun with your VB, I was similar to you, wanted one since ’95 (i was not a kid then but had no cash and no way of getting one) so when my wife presented me with a real nice Japanese model, in box with all parts, on my birthday last year, well for one i knew i had the right woman, but secondly it has immersed me ever since, more so than my DS or Wii.

Have fun,
HT 😀

Good little time passer, found it, won’t give away where, have a search and discover all manner of arcade gems in there.

Nessie, i admire your enthusiasm but this site is top as it is, one topic only, the VB and for me thats all i want.
The last thing i need or want is to hear political or religious discussions, rants etc, each to thier own and log into some other site for a hit of that if you so desire but we all love VB here so lets just keep it that way.
BTW whats the project you been on for 18 months?

Sweet, I like alot, gonna send the link to some buddies.
Keep up the top work,
😀
