Its just the box fatiguing over the years from the shrink wrap being so tight. Only thing to look for on US sealed games is the H seam on the back and a hang tag (which is common to fall off). Japanese games were never sealed so use your best judgment when someone lists it as brand new.

Thank you very much for your quick reply 🙂

So, any tips when it comes to actually buying stuff at this site? I mean, of course it is important to make sure to translate the description as good as possible, but other than that is there any communication needed with the seller? And is PayPal an option or??

The best advice I can give you is to check each and every auction page. I guess its just common there but a lot of the time the first pic doesn’t always depict everything that is included. I usually will see the first pic just showing a system but the other pics will include games and other items that are included. Its kind of nice because some people will just skim through the results page and not bother checking each one because the “standard” is that the first pic usually depicts all items. Also when some auctions are translated, it will warn you that the word “junk” is used in the description and that it is low quality goods. Ive purchased several of these listings and everything ends up looking like new. Ive never had to communicate with any of the sellers so I’m sure you will be ok. Unless you can translate the pages and communicate with the seller about shipping to other countries, you will probably have to use a proxy service to buy the goods and reship the items to you. I personally use Buyee or FromJapan. Fees are pretty reasonable and FromJapan also lets you shop on other sites such as amazon.jp which only ships to japan. Both services allow paypal.

Edit- use this when searching for VB items:バーチャルボーイ

http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/

Most japanese items end up being the cheapest from there. Just keep in mind any proxy service fees and higher shipping rates.

Thanks Ben, it went for about 6000 yen in the end, HoMenace did you manage to win it? I won some of the other flyers, 4 I think.

Unfortunately my highest bid was 5000 yen. At the moment in my VB collecting Ive been setting limits on certain items so I don’t subtract from my funds for other more desirable VB items. I did however manage to snag this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/371285481914?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I think I might have over spent but the 3d specs never pop up and Ben won the first iteration of the VB magazine so I can settle for the 2nd one 🙂

Thanks Ben!

That’s why it needs Kickstarter to get the word out.

I’m pretty confident that atleast 80% of the people that even care about the VB are already members here and that no matter how much of an audience we can reach, the demand just won’t be there.

I would be willing to pledge up to $500 ($10k+ in installments for a Chrono Trigger game 😉 ). That being said, it would have to include a CIB copy. Anything under it would have to include a rom that is Flashboy + compatible. As someone who has backed many crowdfunded projects, I feel it is absolutely necessary to include either a digital or physical copy with any tier $50 and over. Otherwise this would basicly be a donation and I dont see large enough funds being generated to make this happen.

I agree that the 50k goal you mentioned is very reasonable for the coder(s) but I don’t think our community is large enough to raise that kind of money. I’m just guessing but I’d say we have about 30 regular basis users? Even if we doubled that, each person would have to contribute $833.33 to reach that goal.

Its sad as I would love to see this happen but if those are the kind of funds needed, than I honestly can’t see it coming to fruition.

with the price i paid for two copies i would be a little bit upset if the full ROM was released. a few years from now i would probably feel differently. a stripped down 1-player version with less music/options i could get behind.

I feel the prices we paid were reasonable considering the amount of work and professional style programming that went into making this retail like experience. Not to mention the R&D of the new chips to support this game. It was a little bit more expensive than other homebrews/hacks but I feel it was well deserving of its price point. If others want to fund making a rom release compatible with our current Flashboy + then so be it. Everyone deserves a chance to play this great game.

Did you still want the games we talked about?

Thanks for all the info guys! Ben, the only 2 that I have seen go up for auction local or abroad in the past 2 years is Teleroboxer and Mario Clash. It seems your prices are pretty much right on as he is asking $500 US for the complete set.

Yes that is the # that appears on all of the sellers. So far this is looking good 🙂

Can anyone confirm if the # in the bottom left corner of the sticker is the same across all of the sample games other then red alarm? I ask because I am in contact with someone who claims to have all of them and are willing to sell them but I noticed that the #’s on them were the same and that was a little concerning especially with all the stickers looking prestine. Thanks.

P.S. Also what would be a fair price for a complete set?

Resist the temptation Eric! 🙂

The only one I have is the Club Nintendo reprint of Game & Watch Ball. Its a pretty cool part of Nintendo’s history but its too simplistic for me to really get into.

Just received 2 more units. First one is a blockbuster rental unit: VN10023703[0]. Second one is a Japan demo with the playlink stamp: V10034474.

I can’t sigle handedly fund a commercial quality game, but if someone could make Chrono Trigger or another game I have great intrest in happen… I would most certainly pay an exuberant amount of funds to help the cause 🙂

Wow… All I can say is, thank you Ben! Without you, Mr. Anon, and M.K. this masterpiece would not exist. It has been killing me to not be able to say anything about this fantastic addition to our library. I personally can say that no amount of money or goods will pry this gem out of my collection 🙂

As others have stated, bigmak is the guy you need to talk to 🙂

I honestly cannot value games on R-Zone because it’s really up to the what a buyer would pay.
That being said I would personally be willing to pay $8-12 depending on if it includes the protective dust cover sleeve. I only have 1 loose cartridge with the dust cover, I guess every kid lost them?

I ask because a new local game shop has it with the dust cover for $2.99. I never see these and it reminded me of this thread lol.

If anyone needs it, let me know.

How much would indy 500 be worth?

Nice write up on an awesome find Ben! Its great to see that there are still some interesting finds to be had.
