Uh… the VB shouldn’t care what type of memory it is reading the game from.

Uh, shouldn’t this be moved?

Hell i even have a 3d laptop sharp rd3d from like 5 years ago.

What a coincidence! I was searching for information about it today. I’m not planning to buy one, but I like reading about obscure systems. So what is it like?

If thats the case then the vb will never show its power if hombrew people can only limit themself to games that fit on the flashboys chip instead of making big games that u expect of a 32 bit system (even thought the system is not cd based)

The Flashboy has 2 MB of space I think. You can play Wario Land on it, right? And Wario Land is 2 MB, and I don’t think there are any games larger than that.

The Virtual Boy supports games up to 16 MB. According to DogP, it even supports SNES-style chips in games! So the VB is a lot more powerful than most people think.

The stand I actually got another one which is fine, but I probably won’t use it as I read they tend to break often. A pile of books should do it.

That’s how I played mine until I got the stand, but it’s not a particularly great experience. Like DogP said, if the stand is still functional, don’t worry about it, but otherwise get another one. I’ve had mine for about 10 months and it has been OK all the time. It also depends on where you play the VB and where you store it. I, for example, store it in a corner of my desk, and when I want to play it, I bring it to the front of the desk, which is a very small distance. If you store your VB somewhere else, I recommend you grab it with the left hand on the stand (and press the stand against the bottom side of the VB so that they stay together, but not too harsh), and with the right hand on the unit itself so you don’t put too much pressure on the stand. Once you’re done transporting the VB, transport the controller and power adapter (if you have one) by themselves.

Or you can build yourself a head strap – see the Workshop section of this site.

I found out that in MAKE.BAT, the path “C:\GCCVB” was hardcoded in (and I don’t have it there), so that was the root cause of all problems. I haven’t tried compiling anything yet, but I think it should work.

But that one has to be compiled, right?

Agreed, where’s the “report” button when you need it? Oh well, KR155E will notice it anyway.

It’s a Buy It Now auction for £549.99. It’s boxed, has the manual and everything, and looks perfect.

He probably means the FlashBoy.
I don’t like the idea of converting VB games to FlashBoys either, but that’s the only way they can be manufactured… right?
Why isn’t it possible to manufacture VB cartridges? Patents? Copyright problems?

And yet Mario’s Tennis is really cheap. Does Mario’s Tennis suck or something? I haven’t played it, but only because I don’t understand the rules of tennis.

Mario’s Tennis is in my opinion a very good game. Don’t worry about not understanding the rules – the game actually taught me how to play tennis! The manual (available on this site) is very well written, explains everything, and you should be able to learn tennis just by playing the game.

And the last time I looked, Red Alarm wasn’t that expensive. And I’m just lucky because it came with my system. It’s the best VB game I’ve played yet (well, I only have 3 games).

What, the US and Japanese taps aren’t the same? Anyway, mine is a Japanese one.

The only thing I can say is that a Sinclair ZX Spectrum adapter will work perfectly with the VB adapter tap. I’ve been using my VB that way since I got it.

I’ve also noticed another thing: sometimes, when I move my head away from the screen, screen glitches appear, and then when I look back into the screen they slowly disappear. Does anyone have an idea why does this happen?

Thanks!

Here’s an edited screendump of Mario’s Tennis from this site. Made with Paint.

If you’re curious what specifically is wrong, I posted a display tester app a while ago that you could try (if you have a flash cart).

I’d love to try that but I don’t have one.

Another thing is that the sound and graphics were just not good enough compared to other systems. Even other systems in that period that failed (the 32X, Jaguar, 3DO, etc.) had much better graphics than the sprite-based VB. Of couse, the VB is 3D, but that’s not enough if it couldn’t generate graphics that actually looked realistic.

Headaches, eye strain, yadda yadda yadda… When imagination fails, write up a sloppy “Top # worst consoles of all time” list with the VB on the first place.

Well, actually, my VB is always less than 1 meter away from me when I’m at my computer, so I just keep the controller attached because the cable’s long enough, and it’s not too much trouble either to disconnect it. But yeah, while playing, holding it by the stand is pretty much the only solution. But you could just take it off the stand.
