so the first half of the next batch is on sale! emails have been sent to those who preordered before may, 12th.
here’s a quick photo of the “new” flashboys. they have new boxes, which were professionally printed on cardboard, plus a quick reference card and a pvb card. the new price is 85 euro. still 25 euro below the ebay price. 😉
note: of course the package still contains an usb cable, i just forgot to include it on the photo.

thanks eric, that’s exactly the points why not everything can be rated/reviewed.
moved the thread to the right forum. please post anything about the website in the “pvb” forum.
danke!
oh ja… an der seite selbst habe ich schon lange, lange nichts mehr gemacht. müsste ich echt mal wieder tun… 😀
btw, what are you adding? are you going to work on sound support? debug functionality? cheat codes? save states? maybe even a nice red dragon-esque menu? wouldn’t it be nice to merge both projects? red dragon has many features i am missing in reality boy.
i’ll email you a save file for the blox 2 demo in a minute. it has a saved game, which is stored at the end of the save ram. if the language selection screen appears after the ipd/focus screen, then the save file is corrupt. (at startup, a checksum is calculated over the whole save ram and compared to one stored at the beginning of the save file, if it does not match, for example because the save file has not been completey loaded into ram by the emu, save ram gets cleared.)
when adding save support to blox 2, i noticed, that only the first half of the save ram is initialized when reality boy loads a *.ram file, the second half is just empty. this always messes up saves when anything was written in the second half of the save ram, like best results for one of the later levels or a game in progress.

good to hear that you’re working on reality boy! make sure to fix that saving bug, alright? 😀
weird indeed! but i’m glad to hear that it’s working now! 🙂
are you using an usb hub? have you tried another cable? you are not using dev mode on the loader, right? which roms did you try? (only 2mb roms work)

good news, btw! the problems are overcome and the next batch will soon be avaialable to those who preordered. 🙂
a little coaching for newbies:
the first ever virtual boy homebrew was alberto covarrubias’ (aka virtual-e) cursor demo in early 1999. the first ever homebrew game was virtual pong (also by alberto), released in june 1999. other homebrew games released prior to the coding compo are 3d battlesnake (originally called tron vb), simon! and tic tac toe by dogp (released in april 2003), blox (june 2003), and snowball wars by jorgeche (2007).
alberto’s tron was planned to be released in 2000, but was discontinued, until it was released this year, during the coding competition.

oh no, on his site virtual-e the game has been on there for years
played tron like 6 month ago atleast
6 months ago =/= “years”. actually it was released on may, 7th, shortly after the competition started.
my fault. mario kart actually got 90 points! i was too tired yesterday. 😀
This was the first game ever made in the virtual boy homebrew scene It was made in 1998, just 2 years after the virtual boy had officially stopped
where the hell do you get your info from? 😛
you can’t. but… just write me a pm and i’ll do it for you. 😉
oops! must’ve overseen yours, it is on the list now!
reality boy does not support sound! you could try red dragon, but it does not have perfect sound emulation too.
at first glance, this one is less interesting than the other entries, but if you think about it, it will be a great step forward for the homebrew scene once the source is released. i’d be happy to include the midi player in blox 2. great work, dan! 🙂
a nice fun to play surprise entry! 🙂 looking forward to future versions! btw, how is a stage selected? or is the stage selected randomly?
