I am sorry to read that your VB is experiencing issues. Before you run to a local retro shop I would like to give you a nickles worth of free advice.

The soldering of the VB cables is a delicate process that requires not only a steady hand and skills, but I believe experience. I can not speak for your local shop, as I’ve no idea what type of soldering they may have done in the past. What I can suggest is for you to research just how many VB systems RunnerPack and TheForce81 have fixed for this community. When it comes to 20 year old hardware, going with experience over chance seems like a smart bet to me.

You asked about Bound High!. Have you considered purchasing a FlashBoy+? With a FB+ you will be able to enjoy BH and all of the other prototype, hacks, translations, ROMs, and homebrew available for the VB. It is a great investment and a device every VB owner should not be without.

pvb is a fun community and i really enjoy my vb. i’m happy to hear that it’s sticking around and getting an upgrade. there really is no better place to discuss the virtual boy.

i would still very much like to see doom 1 and 2 brought over to the virtual boy.

I like that one even better. I played Square Tube 3D on a Smart Watch with an accelerometer. This actually felt a bit unnatural. I’ve played similar style games on the OUYA with a controller and they controlled smoothly.

it fills a niche for gamers looking to own a brand new display box for their shelf/collection.

when my glitch issue first showed up it always got better the longer i played. i just assumed the warming of the system was causing the glue to warm up as well, making a better contact. the problem is that this is not a fix for the problem. eventually it will get worse. soldering is the only permanent solution.

baking is not a permanent fix. you will have to do it each time the glue separates again. i would recommend that you have someone solder your cables for you. there are users on this very forum who can perform that procedure for you.

If you’re asking because you just want to play it then you would be much better off with a FlashBoy+. $100 will get you a FB+ and then you can play all the ROMs, hacks, translations, and homebrew.

If you are a collector then the NA release is worth more.

The game does have some text but you can get through it without reading any of it, from what I can recall. It has been a very long time since I beat this game and I only did so once.

based on what i’ve seen loose carts asked for on ebay i would estimate the value more around $350 with the VB (on the low side). the issue you’ll face is that most buyers these days are collectors and they want complete in box purchases. gamers will buy loose carts, the issue being there are so many of those already that trying to sell even more won’t be quick.

you might be better off listing everything as a lot. being careful to include excellent photos and a great description. xmas is right around the corner and your lot may just grab the attention of a buyer.

consider ebay over local ads. local ads will take much longer.

there has been 3ds homebrew for awhile and a way to play them. smealum’s launcher is the only one that will be free (it won’t require an expensive 3ds flash kit) and will not luanch 3ds rom back-ups.

to me, the vest vintage in gaming, as in the best era, would be the 8bit era. this was the most memorable and paved the way for everything i love about gaming today.

16bit would have to be a close second, everything after that hasn’t changed all that much for me. faster hardware, better graphics, new experiences, but similar experiences from ps1 onward.

i think this is a really cool project. however, i don’t see that great of an improvement. while i still enjoy my old consoles, these days it is much more convenient to run emulators and output via hdmi. with filters and plug-ins i can achieve more desirable results, and everything is running on 1 system with a controller of my choice.

while emulation may not allow 100% of the games to function as they should, i’m still getting a great experience. i can still relive those memories. etc.

the permanent fix is to have the cables soldered. their are those on this board who will provide that service for you, and may even PM you with an offer.

I left mine turned on for a week before and didn’t even notice. It ran 24/7 with Wario in it. A week later I sat down to play it and laughed because I could have sworn I turned it off the week before.

I’ve also moved it and bumped it around while its in use. It seems like a robust system even tho it has moving parts.

i see that you posted in the WTB thread. a 3D printed visor may be the best way to go. you can also check eBay, i do see the part that comes attached to the VB for sale separately on occasion.

you buy goods, and then sell them. it is your right to make a profit. asking whatever you want is your right. uneducated consumers or impulse buyers may pay more than the value. i’ve been buying and selling collectibles for 30 years and this is the nature of the market place.

profiting off the hard work of others is the way capitalism works. i’ve got no issues with that or the price the seller is asking.

with that said, not including pertinent information such as that it is a reproduction cart that contains a fan-translation is misleading. this is unethical.
