Thanks for the response.
I’m going to try to tinker a bit with the VB and maybe i can figure out if it is possible to fix or find out what might cause the mirrors to act like a vibrator gone bad ; )

I’ll try to post any progress (or faillure) in the near future.

I haven’t got any use for it as it is right now,i might as well try something with it,and maybe i get to learn something technical for a change.

I think the mirrors are hitting against the casing where the video images are projected from.

I have found a video on youtube from a VB owner who has the same problem as me and doesn’t know how to fix it either:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhtWbpVx2PQ

The responses he has to the video doesn’t seem clear or helpfull to me.

I shal try to take a few pictures and post them, but perhaps the video is helpfull enough.

I have tried 2 different battery packs and ac adapters and new batteries
Same result.
I have also opened te VB and took a peek inside.
It looks like both mirrors/shutters hit the side of the led casing when they start to tremble/shutter.

Although i cant really be sure about that because it is a bit difficult to see it.

Thank you for the advise, that i shall.
And i hope you resolve your vb problem.

What you may want to do is post this in the main forum so that it can be more easily seen. Hope you get the problem worked out!

Hello everyone,

I know i haven’t checked in for a while, and am a noob at anything technical,so i won’t be any help with solving your problem Jive.
But…..

I also have a problem with my VB.
I don’t know if i’m in the right thread, but it seemed fitting.

I recently purchased a very cheap vb,which was a gamble on my part, because it was sold as is.
When i received it,i tested it and it worked like a charm.
I couldn’t be more happy!
Fast forward a couple of months and i hadn’t used it in that time,
I thought: lets try out my newly purchased headphones for it.
To my shock it started to make a tremor like sound every few seconds when i turned it on,and after 4 times it made the sound,it seemded to shut down/power of.
I have looked at a few forum posts and Googled the problem, but was not able to find any answers to what it might be.
I do see the lenses/shutters move but there is no picture/startup screen.
Anyone any thoughts on this?

P.S. I am sorry if i posted this in the wrong thread or if i am stepping out line here.

In any case, thanks for any reply or help.

My flashboy has been repaired by minestorm.
Just like the first time,it was a dry/fawlty solder connecting the flashchip.

I am very grateful for his efforts.

Just wanted to let you guys know.

And carlo3do,
It does sound like your flashboy has the same fawlty solder as mine.
But ofcourse i cannot be sure, because i am a noob when it comes to technical stuff like this.

If you have followed every step mentioned in the earlier posts and the outcome is the same every time then i suggest
you contact the person you bought it from,if he has any suggestions before you leave any feedback.

And maybe minestorm is willing to take a look at it,but you will have to send it to him,and that might take some time before its repaired and returned to you depending on where you’re from.

And ofcourse i can’t speak for minestorm. 😉

Thanks minestorm,
I Shall.

It didn’t work on my old pc,so i think it has something to do with what was wrong with it the first time i send it to you.

I have found your adress in my old pm messages.
I Shall pm you for confirmation of the adress so that i know it is correct.

Thank you for taking a look at it.

I have tried everything that you have suggested but it still doesn’t work.

I have windows xp S3.

When i purchased the flashboy in 2009 it didn’t work either.
So i had it send back for repair and when it came back it worked fine.
(Faulty solder as i recall)

I am afraid that it has the same problem again but i can’t quite seem to understand why that could happen,i haven’t used it for over a year!(i know, shame on me 😉 )

I have one last resort i could try,
but if that doesn’t work i’m afraid it broken.

In 2009/2010 i had an older pc and it worked properly on that.
I recently have gotten a new pc on which it doesn’t seem to work.

So i,m gonna hook that old pc up and try it on that.

Any other suggestions are very welcome.

Good day to everybody.

I have a small problem(and my apologies if i’m on the wrong thread)but my flashboy doesn’t flash either.

I haven’t used the flashboy for a while now.
But i wanted to check a game if it was worth the purchase
in the near future.

I have tried all i could and know, but with the same result everytime.

The flashboy program works until the moment i start flashing a game.
It then states”erasing…please wait” but then nothing happens.

I have tried different usb cables, different flashboy program versions, different games(padded and none padded)and
cleaning the contacts.

Any ideas?Anybody?

Thank you for your time.

 Hey thats really cool,dude.
I also live in the netherlands and got my virtual boy a few months back, without any games though.(Bought a couple in the months thereafter.)
Its a nice piece of hardware for any videogame console collector.
I hope that you really can appreciate its uniqueness.
I have noticed that the stand can easely break or the led screens tends to malfuction.Try to be gentle with those parts.
But don’t let that discourage you.
Have fun with it. 😉

I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but there are also some 3D imaging goggles that create the illusion of 3D on your pc.
I myself own a pair of goggles known as “Simuleyes” which connects to the monitor port at the back of my pc and when you put them on and push a specific key on the keyboard, the screen starts to flikker and also do the glasses.
It does need compatible software to work (like,i have wolfenstein 3D and Descent).
It is a bit outdated.
It was released back in 1994.(I really liked it a lot and for me it had a “wow” effect.)
Today there are still goggles like that availlable, which are improved ofcourse and even work with movies and games of any console,as long as it is connected to the tv.

To my knowledge it didn’t sell very well, because there aren’t many compatible games released for it and it was rather expensive.
I paid for mine 250 gilders (Dutch currancy back in those days) which would make about 130 euro’s today.
For me then a lot of money.

Thought i should post the serial number of my japanese virtual boy i purchased from ebay a few months ago:

V10027143

😉

So far i have tried everything, downloaded all the different versions of the flashboy loader,3 different pc’s,different usb ports, different cable’s,different roms from the internet and from the cd that came with the flashboy, including vue snake,i used the padder program, but still nothing.
The loader program does say that the flashboy is connected but it just doesn’t erase the flash card, and it just freezes.
Sometimes i get the “0%” at the bottem of the loader but it just stays that way.

I have tried to use a usb hub as well, because it didn’t work on the usb ports i connected the flashboy on.It didn’t work either.

I don’t believe that the flashboy could have been damaged through shipping either, but somehow it doesn’t seem that it is going to work. 🙁

Yep,
i have tried that as well. With the padded and unpadded roms that came with the flashboy and with a few roms i downloaded from the internet.
The flashboy transfer program also freezes when i flash a game, until i disconnect the flashboy.
I also downloaded other versions of flashboy program, with no preveil.
Also tried other usb ports.
It is probably something simple, but i followed the manual to the letter. 😕

I recently aquired a flashboy, but i too have the problem that all programs work except that when i try to flash a game it doesn’t do anything. It just says:erasing…please wait.
But then after 10 minutes nothing has changed.
Could someone please help me with this?
I have tryed a different usb cable, tryed it on another pc,but nothing helps yet.

Thanks,in the meantime i will explore this site and others to learn more about the virtual boy.

Good day to all.
I am new here, and i recently aquired a virtual boy.
I was browsing a through a few gaming sites which led me here.
The idea of having a flashboy is very appealing to me,because i live in the Netherlands and VB games here are difficult to come by.
I know ebay is an option and i’ve used it many times.
But some games are very expensive and i would very much like to play and experiment with homebrew games.
So my question is this:Is it possible to purchase one within the near future and how much would it be including shipping cost to the Netherlands, europe?
Thanks.

With kind regards rdk123.
