Unfortunately, it seems the plastic part of the VB stand has developed a crack that’s only completely visible when you force the metal legs open to set it up. 😯 I’m not sure if that’s normal for the VB or not. (Getting off topic, I know.)

Painfully normal. I’ve been considering making repros.

Take the stand off the vb and crazy glue that little plastic piece back together.

An all-metal stand with a tiny & weak plastic front plate to absorb the stress of the legs…I’d like to personally slap the person who decided that was a good idea. >:(

I own 6 Virtual boys. Good to have backups. 😉

Good stuff, the serials sounds like it was a legit BB unit!

I sent him an email, but it looks like he hasn’t done any repairs on them in about a year, and hasn’t logged in on here since September. Is he the only one?

Only person I know of that actually offered a VB repair service. His AIM is listed in his profile, I’ve seen him on recently.

Otherwise, get handy with a soldering iron, son!
If that bothers you and you wish to bake, I’d recommend removing the eyepiece and baking it by itself, instead of torturing the entire console.

Rad. I only wish Stella was available for VB. 🙁

Yes, it’s from the press kit. I’ll scan in the other page for you, shows the shiny Pre-Production USA model console with the black knob & focus slider. Of course, you already have the real thing in your possession. 🙂

True low budget sleeper hits are far and few, but they usually get good sales in Japan that more than make up for the dev cost.

If anything, according to the type of argument, the release of the DSi ruined the game industry because of the lack of GBA slot, when it would have been less expensive to just develop 2D SNES-style games that didn’t require the stylus/touch screen.

Anyway, the 3DS will be backwards compatible with DS games. Thus, the current devs have no pressure to make a 3D game if they can’t afford to.

From memory I believe it was Castlevania Legends (March 11, 1998), which came out shortly after Wario Land 2 (March 02, 1998).

Maybe you can dig through 1998 catalogs/magazines that show release dates of the following 1998 games:

All-Star Baseball ’99
Beavis and Butt-Head
Bust-a-Move 3 DX
Disney’s Mulan
Harvest Moon GB
James Bond 007
Oddworld Adventures

Ok, I have the conclusion.

Pokemon Yellow was the last non-gameboy color game that was released. It came out on 10/01/1999, however it did have a yellow colored cart plastic. This was the last original GameBoy game.

For gray colored carts, Oddworld Adventures and Rugrats:The Movie were both released 12/01/1998.

In all due respect for the gameboy, please remember that as a fact that the last and final game for Black & White GB was Pokemon Yellow and not rugrats. Pokemon Yellow did have correct colors for Pikachu and the Title screen, but how is that any different than Metroid II that Gameboy color was optimized for despite the game being released in November 1991.

Good stuff. The end of the Space Squash review gave me a good laugh. 🙂
“Well done, Coconuts Japan Entertainment”

Submitted these images to the site for ya’. 🙂

Got a set of Optigraphic Caps for $15.99!
Pretty cool, considering it was $6 + shipping for the set of 4 cardboard pogs back when (such a rip-off!)

The seller seems to have other video game related pogs up if anyone cares(?)

I believe Miyamotos own inventions (Mario and Zelda games) have earned Nintendo their fair share of cash too 😉

I agree, N64 sucked and I bought one at launch for Mario 64. Also enjoyed Zelda Ocarina and Majora’s Mask. Doesn’t give the washout an excuse to call VB a toy and not a gaming platform.

Maybe if Miyamoto had given the VB a chance in hell…
Wario for VB proved that the Virtual Boy was enjoyable and impressive more than just “Red Alarm wireframes”.

Super Nintendo was the last great Nintendo console before VB. VB was new and exciting. N64 and onward has been bland & underpowered sell-out central station. It’s a lot easier making money selling games and consoles catering to “non-gamers”.
Can’t blame someone for caring about money more than video games, but that doesn’t mean they deserve respect from gamers. Face it, Miyamoto loves champagne parties more than video games these days. Lots of once great things are in the past, just don’t forget that Nintendo in the 21st century applies.

Edit: Not trying to sound like a cold-hearted hater, but the interview rubs me the wrong way and Miyamoto really doesn’t have any right to try to pretend like VB failed just because of pathetic toy excuses. The VB was awesome, I was there pre-launch and day one. It failed because it was pricey, not color, not portable, and got horrible media coverage. Lack of game support and lies ruined it. If you stuffed your chubby little face in a VB in 1995, you were WOW’ed.

If anyone played a VB, they liked VB. Even reviewers that extend VB hate usually admit that Wario Land on VB is a gem that shouldn’t be missed.

Funny, every time I play VB naked somebody calls the cops. 😀

Depressing interview.

Miyamoto: But if you think of it as just a fun toy, it’s a big success…

Miyamoto: When you think of it as a gaming platform, it becomes a failure.

When an exciting and innovating gaming platform like VB (yeah, I called it a gaming system!) is just a silly toy, makes me laugh at Nintendo’s downward spiral of exciting technology since then compared to competitors. N64 was all textured mapping and gave off a very blocky look that couldn’t be avoided, Gamecube couldn’t graphically stand up to Xbox, and Nintendo Wii…. Should have just released the sensor bar and motion controller as an upgrade for Gamecube.

I did enjoy the touch screen on the DS, and I’m looking forward to 3DS quite a bit.

But I can’t help but feel that Miyamoto is a bit jealous of Yokoi and his great inventions that kept Nintendo afloat and financially out of the red.

Well Akumi, if you’d like to develop some 2 player games I’m sure it would help link cable sales. Wait, but what’s the point in all the effort because not many people have link cables, right?

The cable project is an expensive specialty item, and I have my doubts that DogP is doing this for the money. The cables will sell out, and in a year or two the people that bought the cables will be enjoying 2p bliss. The cable sells itself/themselves to the audience that’s interested.

fixed. I was on the phone when I was typing that. 😡

So if a set of 2P mini games was to be made would a cable not be needed to test this, chicken egg type scenario occuring i think.

jeje well 3D BattleSnake is a 2P game so there must have been some way to actually make the link cable before

Yes Akumi, people hacked their own cables.

Just saying that if you made like 10+ 2P mini games and then showed of some some gameplay demo then more people might want to buy your link cable

I vote for sealing the link cables in a can. 😛

You know… that’s not actually a bad idea. Well… THAT is a terrible idea, but you might be onto something. There may be a commonly available container that’d work great for this. I don’t know what that would be, but I’ll keep my eyes open 😉 .

DogP

Eat a WHOLE bunch of nuts or pringles chips. Something with with a plastic cap without a company logo on it. Then just paste some labels on with glue-stick. 😀

This approach may be too “ghetto” for such an expensive cable though.
Anything is better than nothing. Even a plain white box with a small sticker on it is better than a loose cable.

I’m very much a collector, but the homebrew community seems to mostly be…not collectors. As cool as a professional box would be, I have fears that it would make like 10 people really happy, and add $5 to each order for everyone else that just doesn’t give a hoot.
If you want to make fancy packaging, making it an option is my advice.
