intrested magazine kr15e i already had see it bud is it worth to buy this magazine? whats in there from virtual boy ?

I don’t know, the item description does not give any clues. But since the article is form February 1995, I’d say either a report from Shoshinkai 1995 or an early feature article. In any case, the chance of it containing prototype photos and screenshots is very high. 🙂

Dengeki magazine 2/95 with an early Virtual Boy article. Might contain some unseen material:

Awesome! Thanks for this in-depth view and welcome to Planet VB! Will you also provide video? I think we all would LOVE to see the game in motion. 🙂

Are there any guidelines for what tags should be given to topics?

Not really. The only guideline is to find a few keywords that describe a topic’s content, that’s all. 🙂

How does this work with forum sections? For example, shouldn’t all topics in the development section be given the “Homebrew” tag? Are tags going to replace sections completely?

All topic that talk about development or a certain homebrew title should get a “Development” and/or “Homebrew” tag, yes. That would be most of the topics in the development forum, but not all.

Sections will stay, they’re great for a rudimentary categorization and grouping of topics. Tags are just an additional layer of information, they can refine categorization and describe a topic more exactly. They can be of use to find similar topics, even across the borders of forum categories, or offer new ways of browsing a forum. For example you could show all topics that talk about the Mosaic Box Demo VB. These are the things I meant with “advanced functionality”, which will be available on PVB 4.

This thing looks awesome. I have donated a last minute $333 last night, now can’t wait for the Oculus to arrive in December – if they can adhere to their schedule now that they fundraised 10 times their initial goal. A friend of mine will be receiving his Leap Motion prototype dev kit in December as well, which ia a new motion tracking system. Maybe we’ll try to combine both systems.

Anyway, I hope Ryphecha got an Oculus Rift as well and will add a special display mode to Mednafen. 😉

By the way, thinking about introducing a “tagger” badge for a certain number of tagged topics.

Update: On the forum view, little tag icons next to the topic titles now show you which topics have tags.

We’ve done something like this in the first two years of the site’s existance. It can still be seen here: http://www.planetvb.com/content/misc/ebay_history/index.e.htm

Eventually, it became too much work. Today, this could be automated for the most parts, but still require regular work. It could be user driven, though.

For example, the ebay API could be used by a regular process that catalogues auctions that ended since its last run. Users would then, in a separate step, have to categorize the auctions saved by the process, which means selecting the auctioned game, hardware, or other item from a dropdown for every auction and click save. All the rest could be done automatically.

That’s a very cool G&W site, by the way!

Nice review! Now looking forward to the 15-minute homebrew grand finale! 🙂

That’s very nice, great work by Luke on that logo! I wonder why he used the box front as a base and not the original cart sticker? Also, the aspect ratio is pretty off.

Quite amusing, thanks for posting this!

Did you find anything of intersting in your research regarding the store displays by the way?

Thanks, fixed!

Have I noticed all the changes made to this version? Apart from the special message on the title screen and the save function for high scores, it seems that the music tempo and overall flow of the music has been improved. I already mentioned the fact that the name entry screen assumes its me. Anything else? I do notice, however, that the stereoscopic effect on the playing field seems to have been removed. In the version that I downloaded from this site, the snake seems to be hovering over the blocks, but in this version, he seems to be resting on them. Was a change made there?

In-game graphics have been changed a bit, nothing dramatically or instantly noticeably. Also this version is english only so it’s like an “USA release”. I think that’s all that has been changed. I did not remove the depth in-game; if it was there in v1.1 and is not in your version, this happened by mistake. Weird.

Ben, does the whole highscore list look garbled? It sounds as if Luke forgot to initialize the SRAM after receiving the cart. On first startup of the game, press the left and right triggers on the very first screen to clean and prepare the SRAM (A little symbol will show up in the bottom left corner to show it worked).

I am glad you’re enjoying your present as much as I enjoyed making my little contribution to it and talking about it to Jason. 🙂 You have some really great friends there!

There’s a few more little differences in your version of the game; I bet you already found them. 🙂

It was indeed. Ahem.

Congrats Nathan on getting a try unique piece of art! Somehow it was obvious to whom it would be sold. 😀

A really nice idea, I too am very much looking forward to it! Feel free to use my real name, nick or both, it’s all fine.

Pacman and “R3” (and Space Invaders) are all from the same guy, who posted these demos on the Video Game Chat forum long ago. I don’t remember his name, though.

So, since the challenge is over, we can start defining and adding new tables.

Ben pointed out to me that M.K.’s VB Racing shows your times for each stage after finishing the game, which would make some more interesting tables.

About certain modes, in which cheating is possible: we could add them and simply not award any gamer points for them, but compete in them just for fun?

I share your opinion in parts, expecially about Resident Evil.

I really LOVE Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, though!
