Would have been nice if we talked about that before, Richard, as I am sitting on tons of donor carts and box prints. So, in theory, we would be able to offer those to the people as an option. (Boxes probably for self-assembly.) Should be cheaper and more convenient for most people than having to send in a donor cart. And they get a box. 😉 Please let me know if that’s an option.
Exporting as stereo bitmaps seems to be the best option on the VB to me.
We are in the planning stages for a community game project, you’re warmly invited to take part in it. Stereoscopic environments and sprites would be ace! Got something to show?
Definitely! I created a forum posts with the results and pointed the URL to the compo forum. Thanks. 🙂
This has to do with Opera not being able to switch the input field type from text to passwort on onfocus. At least that’s what it seems, but if you press tab again, focus jumps back to the user input field instead of the submit button. Press tab again to get to the password field and it works… Some weird Opera bug?
Really great work! Added the mp3s to the VL Baseball game page.
Not a nice assumption. 😛 No, I am not pushing it. But I am amazed by the price.
From now on I will ebay all FlashBoys.
(just kidding)
No, assembling is not difficult, just takes a bit of time. I get the FlashBoy Boxes on raw printed sheets from an online printing service, cut them out with a knife, cut the round corners out with scissors, mark out where they will be folded, then glue them together. The link cable boxes would not need the cartridge holder and therefore require less time to assemble, though.
I just took a 2.5m ethernet cable and tied it together. Needed approx. 18x6x6 cm of space. Do you think that’d be sufficient?
Heh, depending on how many FlashBoys will be build in the future, we could offer a very limited premium development package featuring two FlashBoys, a link cable and the USB adapter. 😉
A box would be nice, and I’d like to help with my experience of building FlashBoy boxes and by designing (part of?) the box, if I can find the time.
For the raw printed sheets, a box should only cost a few dollars. It’s the time needed to assemble the boxes which plays a much higher role. What are you people willing to pay extra for a FlashBoy-style box? I’ll check out if it’s doable at that price.
I think the link cable box should follow the artwork and measurements of the official headphone box, at least this is how I’d imagine the offcial PlayLink box:

I need to do high res scans of the headphones box anyway, so I could use those as a template.
A FB Plus/link cable bundle would be nice, probably a bit hard to coordinate. If it sells well, maybe there will be a second batch of link cables coming out at about the same time as the second FlashBoy Plus batch? 🙂
Sorry guys, if any more FlashBoy Plus remain unclaimed, I’ll have to offer them to the next people on the preorder list. The list is LONG, so the second batch is long sold out.
Sadly, I have to push batch 2 back to Q2 2011, since I will be busy with my bachelor thesis until April. Dang.
I don’t have a direct translation, but have you seen the FAQ by Brian Hodges yet? It should be useful for you: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/games/?r013ff017 🙂
Moved to main VB Forum.
For music without sound effects, the Panic Bomber debug menu contains a sound check. Here’s the patch: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/games/?r009d 🙂
What I mean is, if, for example the serial for Blox 2 was VUE-VB2M-DEU, what would that make people think if they don’t know what the last three digits are intended to stand for? They’d probably think that the game is in german, since they’re used to serials that end with the region, like USA.
Or how about VUE-VSUE-SVN for Soviet Union 2010? 😉
The idea of using the last 3 digits for the country where it was made is a nice one, but couldn’t that be a bit confusing? Nobody would understand what’s meant who didn’t read this read or some explanation somewhere.
I’d agree with Fwirt that those digits should be used for their intended purpose: the region the game is intended for. In the case of homebrews it’d be “the world”, “the scene”, “the internet” or similar.
Proposals:
“HBR” – Homebrew
“WLD” – World
“INT” – International
“UNL” – Unlicensed
“RF” – Region Free
Instead of making something up, we could also just omit the last three digits for homebrew projects. Those are not coded into the ROM and were only prited on boxes and stuff anyway.
What do other devs say? Maybe we need to set up a poll for that.
Thanks for your ideas! I chose “References”, as it seemed to be the most appropriate term.
About the seperation “Multimedia” (Which might get renamed to just “Media”) and “Images”: It’s right that screenshots are images too, and technically, videos are just moving images. But if I chose to have screenshots under the images tab, I’d need extra tabs for videos and audio.
So I decided for the current solution, which could be seen as a separation between “media” taken directly from the game (screenshots, videos, audio) and the “image” tab, which holds all kinds of related scans (Boxes, Carts, Flyers, etc).
I agree that it’s not a totally clean separation, but the best I can think of. On one hand, I want to group related content in a way that makes sense to not have too many tabs, on the other hand, having “Media” and “Images” under one tab would be too much stuff on one site IMHO.
Not much of interest in that magazine. I had it once and scanned it in, but did not get around to edit the scans and release them yet.

Sure, post the update!
But, since it comes in after the deadline, I am afraid I can’t include that in the ZIP file which can be found in the news post and which should be the base for user votes. :/
You’re right that it’s not a correct term. When the homebrew scene started on the VB, I just adopted the GoodTools naming scheme and did not correct the decision since then.
I have started correcting this by changing all the homebrew ROM names. We now need a new last field name for the serial numbers of homebrew games. Maybe “HBR” for homebrew? “WLD” for “world”? What do you guys think?
I will do more update to the homebrew section as soon as I get around to it. If anyone wants to submit info, images, videos, descriptions, etc of anything (for example your own compo projects), that’d be great!
I’d like to label compo entries and winners somehow, but I am not sure how to do that, yet. An extra tab is a good idea, but I’d also like to label winners somehow. Hmm.
