I rented faceball 2000 for SNES as a youngster. Rad game. It really sticks out in my mind as being a solid “3D” game on 2d consoles. I’m sure the VB release would have been the best of the bunch at the time. It was like a bouncing smiley face doom.

RunnerPack fake account?

Anyway, I would pay a few hundred US, easy.

The only real way to avoid the glitchy displays is to have them *fixed*. I had a brand spankin’ new VB that I unboxed in the past year, and I got the glitchy eye prob within days. The problem is a flaw in the VB design, the solder joints work lose very easily adjusting the IPD knob after all these years.

You can have it fixed, or return it for another unit that will probably eventually glitch.

You can check the threads on how to fix it, send it to someone to be fixed, or return it.

If it was glitchy the first time you turned it on, I’d return it to the seller for being dishonest. However, the *one day later* thing is a risk for all VB owners, and not really the seller’s fault. The fix is pretty permanent, anyway. Why break your heart twice?

I wish you the best of luck, I keep a spare cheapie beat-up VB as a backup at all times. 😕

Anyway, welcome to PVB!

Virtual Jockey, but it would have to buy me dinner first.

I would have preordered one. 🙁
Please put me on your list, KR155E.

I guess I don’t need one, but I would love battery back up dev soft.

How much did you pay for it?

It was $145.98 + $19.99 shipping. 😡

Crazy fan moment: is it just me, or when cameras flash light on a VB doesn’t the light hitting off of it makes it look like the VB is looking around? such as this one looks like its making a ” :rolleyes ” face

Its aliiiiiiiiivvve! 😮

“Gurdy” is always looking around. 😛

Going back to the $50,000 item, I’m curious about the last picture of games he posted on the auction, what game is it?

Sample Soft for VUE Programming.

How much is a Flash Boy in US currency???

Cheaper than a used one eBay…

Interesting, If I focus at the perfect pixel level, and close one eye at a time to adjust the IPD to read the letters VB in the corners as clear as possible, things aren’t so bad. My main prob is I have to constantly shift my head up or down because I have a good 1/2″ of blurriness on either the top or bottom of the screen depending on my relative position. If I could dremel away some plastic to fix this, I’d greatly consider it on a scratched up “gamer’s condition” VB unit.

I always turn everything on maximum 😛

Agreed. 😉

Anyway, best games for Depth are Red Alarm, 3D Tetris, and Golf IMO.

Hey, if I was not only months old when the VB was around, I would have bought/wanted to get one regardless of what people said of it 😉

I’m getting a 3DS even if everyone complains about it too (a Red/Black one, of course)

Jesus, you are young. If you would have just said that, you wouldn’t have caught so much flack I think. *Compared* to you, we’re all cranky old men. (I’m only 27, but I imagine that’s a rough average age for the oldschool gamer)

And yes, a Red/Black 3DS for me too! 🙂

Every gamer I’ve ever known that actually played the VB, ended up buying one. The flop was the bad media, not because it was a bad console.

Are you going to tell me that there wasn’t a better democratic candidate in the 2008 election aside from either Clinton and Obama? The media ate up the African American and Woman thing, and so did the public.

My point? In any aspect of life, people live into media hype as often the only hype. I know many people that think the Virtual boy is a lame flop and gave you headaches. I’ve even heard some say that it makes you colorblind (which is a genetic disorder). The bottom line is that NONE of said people ever played the Virtual Boy. I mean, if you read someone’s random opinion, it must be fact, right? :rolleyes

My apologies, but it strikes a vein when people that haven’t played the VB judge it with such conviction.

As for common myths about VB, they are true to a degree. I once got very nauseous playing Wario Land at a friends house. I was about 15 years younger then, and I doubt that I adjusted the IPD and focus on my friends VB. I bet if you put on a pair of a friend’s prescription eyeglasses, you’d have eyestrain and get nauseous too after 20 solid minutes of wearing them.

I can’t see any reason to hate the VB if you’ve actually played it, and took the 15 seconds to lock in the focus and IPD for your eyes.

It’s perfectly fine and safe to interchange PSU’s. US and Japan voltage is only 10v-17v difference on average. The big gaming fuss came around when people started to import optical media consoles like Saturn and PS1 from Japan, and complained about the laser lens wearing out quicker (unsure if it’s just a big myth). Personally, I’ve only notice an obvious problem with large appliances like Japanese arcade machines, sometimes there are *faint* wavy lines lines the screen like the capacitors are wearing out if you don’t use a step down converter. For Gaming consoles, Step down converters are just something you can buy if you absolutely need the peace of mind to calm your fears.

I’d only worry about aftermarket “universal PSUs”. If somebody messes with the voltage switch, you can easily fry a console.

Well a little joke can’t be that bad right (I’m a teenager myself)?

Are there any prototype link cables out there btw? That would make a cool addition to the collection.

Lol. I’m not old, but 3D Tetris on VB is a new game. Is 1996 retro already?

There obviously was no official link cable released. A prototype surely was made at some point, but none have surfaced to my knowledge. You CAN make your own, if you’d like to so you can enjoy multi-player homebrew.

“what would you do if you were a VB for a day?”
I’d continue my search for Virtual Girls and a proper link-cable to… “interact”.

Lol. I think GunpeyYokoiFan is a kid, dude.

Funny comment, but just giving you a heads up.

When I was a kid, I remember seeing the scrambled VB link-up channels on TV.

Anyway…
The VB is red and black in color aesthetically, and has a Black & red display.

*Would VB be black and white without the red plastic lens pieces?

a little off topic: you played every VB game released? which one is your favorite? 😀

15 years ago, Red Alarm, hands down. These days, I play Vertical Force and Virtual Fishing the most often.

I understand it’s out of most peoples price range, but Virtual Bowling is pretty cool too.

Sometimes it’s nice to just relax and blow off a lot of time on Galactic Pinball for almost everyone.

My taste in games is purely my own, and by no means can I tell someone that they *need* to play Virtual Fishing. There’s really not much to that game. It’s just so relaxing…
Golf also gives me that same calm red & black daydream feel as V-Fishing.

Most people, especially non VB fans, like Wario the best. It’s a solid platformer, and the best all around game on VB by generic non stereoscopic standards. It just wouldn’t have needed the VB to succeed.

I know, I know! 😀
but its because I love the VB so much is why I’d consider such a thing!

its also kinda silly how you say “Being a mod is a job and donation of your time.” then “this site is so slow and quiet that I doubt another staff member will ever be needed.” 😛

don’t worry! I wouldn’t give up Virtual Boy-ing!

Donating time daily has little to do with site traffic, but traffic has much to do with how many staff members are needed in the first place. Play the games, learn more about the VB, and if you wish to help VB donate to the site to help KR155E keep things going. Maybe try for a high score?

I’m fairly new to these forums. But I’ve also played every VB game released, been playing VB for about 15 years, I have a decent collection, and have no personal quarrels with any fellow VB members. All that said, I have no business requesting to be a staff member. Becoming staff of any site requires trust, and familiarity. Let alone this is quite the dev community here, and I’m not at that level yet at all.

I’d say that if for some crazy reason you dream to be PVB Staff, you need to consider what you could do for PVB that would make you an asset.

So enjoy PVB and become a known part of the community before you try to become a part of the system. 😉
