Nice find, thank you for the great scans! No idea where the stereoscopic part came from, probably it was carried over from one of the auctions we got the previous images from. I renamed the album until we know more about these cards and added your scans to it: https://www.virtual-boy.com/games/marios-tennis/images/978507/
Hello! VBJaEngine was the former name of VUEngine. You will have a hard time trying to compile this game today. It requires an old version of gccVB (2.95) and I have no idea of the work involved beyond that, really. It would not make much sense either because the the engine, and the tools around it, became so much better in the meantime. The Mario demo evolved into VUEngine Platformer Demo, so it would make the most sense to rebuild it on that in the latest engine version, if you want to work on it.
Seems very unlikely with no update since 2008, doesn’t it? (Fixed the year, must’ve been a mistake)
No, sorry, that’s not going to happen. You would rather see us making an original platform game once Formula V and Virtual Warzone are done.
We did know, actually. nori_bomber has tweeted about having worked on the game a few times before. But it’s awesome to finally see some of the design documents! 😀
Quick update: fixed the online emulator. It stopped working a while ago because playing audio requires user interaction in modern browsers. It now prompts the user to click once to start the emulation once the ROM is loaded.
Yeah, that would be pretty cool and all… but please stop spamming every thread in every forum and every social media post and every video’s comments on Youtube and every issue tracker on Github you come across about this.
We definitely want to create such tutorials eventually, as part of the VUEngine Studio Documentation. But I am afraid that we don’t have the capacities to make that happen in the near future. It would be amazing to see some passionate individual(s) create “third party” tutorials, similar to how STEREO-BOY did.
Hey! That is alright, it’s of course not a virus. The binaries are simply not signed, because certificates for code-signing are expensive and therefore not an option for free software from a small team just like this one.
A surprising new update got released today on Youtube.

Looks very good, but please, let me spend some rupees in Mellott’s shop! 😉
Here’s a link to play this online: https://www.virtual-boy.com/play/?rom=https://files.virtual-boy.com/forum/978541/lrav0.1.vb
This is immensely impressive, great work! Can’t wait for the inevitable F-Zero hack. 😉
You can construct an URL by passing the attachment URL of the ROM file to the emulator via the “rom” GET parameter:

This ad appeared in Electronic Gaming Monthly Issues 76 from November 1995 and 77 from December 1995.
Thank you Cassidy, haven’t read the article about Virtual Lab yet, but the interview was a super interesting read!
Fun fact: XKizuha, initiator of the “Virtual Lab 2” project mentioned by Megumi, and I have actually started doing an interview with them as well, but we haven’t had any contact since November, when Megumi had to undergo surgery.
I see an “outputfile.vb” in your screenshot, so the injection seems to have worked already. Have you tried running the ROM in an emulator?
But you should make sure to use the latest version of GB Emu (0.3). So if you haven’t built the ROM with that version, delete “outputfile.vb” and try again with 0.3.

Hi Noah! I assume it’s failing because rominjector.exe looks for the files it needs in the directory it is executed in. Try changing the directory first:
cd C:\Users\Default\Gbemu
rominjector.exe outputfile.vb Supermarioland1.gb
Am I right assuming that there were no such VHS tapes for Dragon Hopper or any other Virtual Boy games?
The posters sound like a nice idea, @mike-takagi, I am sure there will be some interest. Since you won’t be able to sell those with any logos… maybe people could buy “Dragon Hopper”, “Nintendo” and “Virtual Boy” logo stickers from a separate source, and apply those to the Dragon Hopper artwork poster to transform it into sort of semi-official aftermarket Virtual Boy merchandise. 😉
Amazing! Thank you very much, @mike-takagi! Just found you on Instagram and saw that you posted some more artwork for Virtual Boy games you did, Red Alarm and Panic Bomber. Was there more? Teleroboxer looks like it’s coming from your airbrush as well, for instance. 3-D Tetris? Maybe even the still undiscovered Bound High artwork? 😮
