A heads up for everyone interested in a HyperFlash32: batch 3 preorders are live.
Heya! Unfortunately, you cannot expect anything near Javascript level of comfort. Check this out: https://www.virtual-boy.com/development/
The two options you have are ASM and C. The highest level to work on is VUEngine, which uses a custom programming language which is just plain C for the most parts and vaguely reminiscent of C++ for the object oriented aspects. There are plans to create something GB Studio like with VUEngine Studio, where you can create VB games through visual editors, an event system etc, but that is still at least years away.
TL;DR: You have to get your hands dirty and learn C if you want to create a (native) Virtual Boy application. 🙂
@Turbo I do indeed remember the name. It is not on your definite list of possibilities. 😉
The site was here: http://kmkstudio.plala.jp/~kamiki/diarypro/diary.cgi?mode=profile&user=admin
On the above site, Dragon Hopper was mentioned in a list of games that the person had worked on. After some research, I found that the guy’s name is Kaoru Kita (喜多 薫 or きた かおる), nickname Kamiki (かみき), and he was a composer at Intelligent Systems, where he worked on the soundtrack of the Fire Emblem series. He was also the main programmer on the original Paper Mario for N64 and worked on some more games at IntSys.
I managed to find him on Twitter, a newer personal website and more. He seems to be into bird photography nowadays.
Here’s a bunch of links:

I tried again to contact Kamiki last year through a contact form on his website and got no reply. I just tried once again to get in touch, this time via email. Cross your fingers and please refrain from trying to contact him yourself, guys (for now), he might dislike being bugged about the game by too many people.
Hey @Virtual-JimWornell, great to hear from you again! Shatner was at E3 1995: https://www.virtual-boy.com/forums/t/he-is-red-jim/
How was he like? Did he like the Virtual Boy? Love hearing those first-hand stories from back in the day.
Do you have any idea, BTW, why there was virtually no coverage of Dragon Hopper and Zero Racers in Japanese media? Only Bound High got a bit of attention.
Thanks for the heads-up! The link is now fixed here and in the game’s download section.
Nope, I am not the seller, just writing the news. 😀
Kevin Mellott (mellott124), maker and the actual seller of the HF32, has recently been offering two slightly blemished units for reduced prices. I recommend you PM Kevin or get in touch through our Discord (https://www.virtual-boy.com/discord/) to see what he can for you. Maybe he has some fully functional test units to part with for a reduced price or something.
You can find the HyperFlash32 manual on the HF32 database page here: https://www.virtual-boy.com/hardware/hyperflash32/manuals/1043819/
Worthy winner. Congrats @Mirai604, enjoy your HyperFlash32! 🙂
Updating the content is a very time consuming task so preparing this took some time. I might implement a system where artist can maintain their work by themselves.
Today I have implemented a way for creators to maintain their own posts, e.g. image albums, and keep them up to date. These can also contain the label and icon binary files in the respective downloadable archives. Maybe this could help to make the task less time intensive for you?
Thanks for the ideas! “Microbrew” and “eRom” sound pretty cool, but I am afraid they both aren’t really clear on what these games are. Maybe something like “nonnative homebrew”? Doesn’t sound too catchy, though.
The VB Racing one is INSANELY good! Awesome work, @Mumphy!
Nice! There’s a few good ideas in these. 3 or 4 are my favorites. A colored logo might further enhance them, like a red background on the Virtual Boy portion possibly?
That’s super cool, @pkerga! 🙂 It should be easy to preset any options in the patch, gotta check with @enthusi. Just wondering how to handle those. I guess the easiest way would be to produce a separate patch per setting. Maybe the options dialog could then be disabled completely?
Nice! Link indeed looks a bit lost on all that screen space. I guess ALTTP style graphics would be a better fit: https://www.spriters-resource.com/fullview/58952/
Should you indeed go with these, I would propose using a separate sprite for the head and applying some parallax displacement to it, for a similar stereo character effect as in Jack Bros.
I made a label for a game I am sure a lot of you would love to see on the Virtual Boy. 🙂
Thanks to Kevin for the preview image!

Ah, nice. Finally, we can replace that decades old video with something in decent quality. Thanks for bringing this up!
Haha, incredibly good timing! On my way home, only 10 minutes ago, I was just thinking about asking you about this, not kidding. I will test and integrate this into VUEngine Studio once the new firmware is out. Thank you so much for your hard work on everything HF32!
“Dragon Dorin Virtual Boy homebrew minigame update 02” has just been posted on Youtube. 🙂

Backers of the Indiegogo campaign received a seemingly finished version (1.0.1) in February. As a high tier backer I was also asked for photos of me to be included in Bombenleger, which was “almost finished” at that point. I was hoping for it to be out by now, but no word from M.K. since, unfortunately…
Since the link to the tracker has not been made public by M.K., but has only been shared with backers, I assume that it’s not meant for public consumption. Therefore, although I’d really love to hear what people make with it, I am reluctant to post it on PVB just yet, sorry.
Thanks!
i kinda wish the mail and notification had its own icons next to the user profile image instead of having to click the profile icon to see the drop down menu.
Good point, I’ll think about it.
it would be nice if it would work with mobile browsers, specifically Vivaldi on Android
The layout is responsive and should work nicely on mobile browsers. Tested on Firefox for Android, mainly. But I just installed Vivaldi to test and found that the main menu is not working on it… D’oh, gotta look into it? Anything else that is not working?
Also, it still logs me off after a while, which is still annoying
Strange, it’s not doing that for me. Can you say roughly how long the site keeps you logged in? And, are you sure it’s not some “security feature” of your browser? 🙂
Side note: what is “connected items” in this comment form supposed to do?
It’s similar to tags, but allows you to connect a forum thread to related database entries, e.g. “Hover Demo”. the benefit is that you get links to relevant database entries when viewing a thread and it allows to show lists of related forum threads in Database entries.
