Yes… but when releasing thousands of copies of a game perhaps a basic spell check could be appropriate… 😉
When googling for congraturations I got 480000 hits, many where Asian pages. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be ascii-coded in the binary so I guess I’ll let it slide.
I’ve been irritated about the game settings in Nester’s Funky Bowling, the name, gender and weight stays there for each round but the player settings, game type and music are reset for every restart… not a big problem, just irritating when wanting to start a new game directly after another.
I noticed the balance settings only seem to affect the affine mode (or anaglyph as it’s called in the new front end). I guess the “redscale” is fixed and can’t be adjusted with those settings.
The balance and brightness settings in both front ends (tried old front with old version and new front end with new version) seems to do nothing… How come? The real VB is a little more purple in my opinion compared to the bright red I get in emulation, would be nice if the balance settings worked.
That seems a little expensive, I paid about $25 with shipping for mine a few weeks ago.
If you decide to go for it however, make sure the seller packs it in a sturdy outer box so you won’t get it pressed together like mine was when it arrived.

Oops… sorry, my fault 😉 . I forgot that I started to play around with the color patch idea a while ago, but never disabled it when I started messing around with the rest of the code. These builds should be fixed.

Still grey palette when red palette is chosen.
… and when running affine mode they’re all red/blue no matter what palette is chosen.
Best thing to do is to play Mario’s Tennis a lot with the new rom map tool and mask out unused areas. That would probably increase the chance of finding any unused code.
I know someone who paid four figures for one – on homebuilt hardware though but still… I haven’t figured out if it’s the glitchy version though. If it’s not it might have been worth it…
Perhaps Chris knows who it is then… perhaps he has bought several FlashBoys and sold several each time he put in an eBay auction…
Or it could be just a scam, sending cash and wait for the goods is usually not a good thing, and especially when it’s a rare item like this. Well not the FlashBoy (as I saw from the picture links he sent me) but the rom-image on it…
He confirmed that it was the “shitty” version of the rom that runs well in emulation but not that well on the real thing. Could it perhaps be some ram latency problem? That would not be present in emulation.
He has a lot of feedback on eBay though.
Perhaps he’ll even sell just the rom-image cheap considering he only asked for $99 for it on a FlashBoy…
